Valentine’s Day Crochet Hat Pattern
The perfect accoutrement to any Valentine’s Day outfit. This sweet hat is comfy and warm and easy to make.
This Valentine’s Day Crochet Hat Pattern, Cupids Cloche, is made in adult size but can easily be modified to any size. This version is increased to 50 stitches. For Child increase only to 45 stitches, Toddler increase to 40 only, and for babies increase to anywhere between 35 & 40. Adjust length appropriately.
Materials:
Red Heart yarn in your choice of 4 colors. I used white, red, rose and fuchsia
5.0mm crochet hook
embroidery needle for weaving in ends and stitching on embellishments
embellishments- heart and layered ribbon flower or appliques of your choice
Abbreviations and Stitches used:
st– stitch
sp– space
mc/r– magic circle/ring
ch– chain
sl st– slip stitch
insert hook, yarn over, pull through, (two loops on hook), pull loop closest to hook through other loop
sc– single crochet
insert hook, yarn over, pull through (two loops on hook), yarn over, pull through both loops
hdc– half double crochet
yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through (three loops on hook), yarn over, pull through all three loops
dc– double crochet
yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through (three loops on hook), yarn over, pull through first two loops on hook, yarn over and pull through last two loops
ps– puff stitch
yarn over, insert hook, yarn over, pull through (three loops on hook), yarn over, insert hook into same space, yarn over, pull through (5 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops on hook
dsc– double single crochet
(I have no idea of the real name of this stitch or if I made it up, so I named it what it was worked like)
Insert hook, yarn over, pull through, yarn over and pull through 1st loop on hook only, insert hook into same space, yarn over, pull through (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops on hook
Increase– two of any designated stitch in same space
Notes:
Pattern is written with my color choices but any colors can be used
I recommend using my seamless method found here
Pattern:
- Mc/r with 10hdc, join round with sl st
- Hdc around increasing in every sp, join round with sl st <20 >
- Hdc around Increasing in every other sp, join round with sl st <30>
- Change color to red and increase in every 3rd sp, alternating between hdc and ps, join round with sl st <40>
- Change color to white and hdc around, increasing in every 4th sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to fuchsia and alternate between hdc and ps in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to white and hdc in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to red and alternate between hdc and ps in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to white and hdc in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to rose and alternate between hdc and ps in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to white and hdc in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to red and alternate between hdc and ps in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to white and hdc in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to fuchsia and alternate between hdc and ps in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to white and hdc in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to red and alternate between hdc and ps in every sp, join round with sl st <50>
- Change color to white and 2dc into every sp around, join round with sl st <100>
- Change color to rose or fuchsia and dsc in every sp, join round with sl st <100>
- Change color to red and sl st around in front loops only. At ever 5th sp single crochet instead, into the previous row, creating a long stitch or spike stitch
- Fasten off and weave in all ends
- Weave ribbon through row 15 and tie in knot (I strongly recommend placing hat on yourself or your model prior to tying the ribbon to ensure that it is not too tight.
- Add embellishments (over knot in ribbon)
I used my simple heart pattern and my layered ribbon flower pattern
