This sun hat is made with cotton crochet thread and is lightweight, cool for warm summer weather. The body of the hat is made with single string and the band and brim of the hat are made with double strings. This pattern will fit most babies 9-12 months.

Please note, this is one of the first patterns I ever wrote. It does not have gauge, however you can make this hat to fit any size using my How to Design Your Own Custom Crochet Hat post HERE. I also wish I had better images, though I may remake this hat someday and get some new photos.
YARN
Cotton Crochet Thread (though you can use acrylic or acrylic blend, size #10)
MATERIALS
3.75mm steel hook
small yarn needle
NOTES
- The first hdc of every round is a Ch2
- End each round with a sl st into the top of the Ch2
- Brim calls for two strands of yarn if you do not have two of the same color you may add a different color or use the ball from both ends for the brim
STITCH GUIDE
rnd(s)- round(s), sc- single crochet, hdc- half double crochet, dc- double crochet, sl st- slip stitch, st- stitch
PATTERN
Round 1: Make magic circle and hdc 10 inside circle, join with sl st
Round 2: 2hdc in every st (20)
Round 3: 2hdc in every st (40)
Round 4: *1hdc in each of the next 3sts. 2hdc in next st. Repeat from * around. (50)
Round 5: *1hdc in each of the next 7sts. 2hdc in the next st. Repeat from * around. (55)
Rounds 6-9: 1hdc in every st (55)
Rounds 10-16: 1dc in every st (55)
Rounds 17-19: Add a second strand of yarn. 1hdc in every st (55)
Brim
Round 20: *3dc in each of the next 10sts. 5hdc in the next st. Repeat from * around.
Round 21: 1dc in every st. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Large Flower
Round 1: magic ring, 9sc in ring, join with sl st
Round 2: 2 dc in each st (18)
Round 3: for each petal (6)- hdc, dc in 1st st, dc, hdc in next st, sl st in next. repeat till all petals are formed, join with sl st and fasten off, leave 12″ tail, weave in beginning tail (into magic ring)
Small Flower
Round 1: magic ring, 10sc in ring, join with sl st
Round 2: for each petal (5), sc, hdc, sc in 1st st, sl st in 2nd st, repeat till all petals are formed, join with sl st and fasten off, leave 12″ tail, weave in beginning tail (into magic ring)
Attach flowers to hat by tails.
