Lauren of Daisy Cottage Designs
I love this blogging thing, it has afforded me the opportunity to meet so many amazing designers and hopefully some lifelong friends. Its funny how you get to know people in the industry when you open up and step outside of your comfort zone. Lauren had commented on one of my patterns and since I always answer all comments and check out where people are coming from, I clicked onto Lauren’s blog Daisy Cottage Designs and fell in love. Her blog is adorable and it is a great mix of free crochet patterns, Lauren’s family life (she has the most adorable daughters) and her spiritual beliefs. She also shares helpful hints and tips dispersed throughout and some super YUMMY recipes. All in all she has a great site with lots of fun stuff.
One of my favorite patterns is her FREE Children’s Market Bag Tote
This pattern is fun and practical and I love her color choices! The finished dimensions of this bag are approximately 12 inches deep by 11 inches wide with a 9 inch “deep” handle (though that’s easily adjustable).
Lets get to know Lauren
How long have you been crocheting? – I’ve been crocheting for a little under 2 and a half years. I started crocheting after the birth of our first daughter. She became really attached to the crocheted blanket my mother-in-law made her and I wanted to be able to make a back up. I never made that blanket (Project ADD…), but I have since made hundreds of projects.
How long have you been blogging? – I started a family blog right after my husband and I got married, so about 6 years. I did it just to keep a record of our lives. Daisy Cottage Designs the Blog didn’t start until a couple years ago, though. It really took off when I started offering some free patterns on the blog.
What are your favorite items to make? – I love making hats for kids and small baby blankets. They’re relatively quick, don’t’ take much yarn, and are super cute so they’ve always been my favorite. I also make tons of flowers for headbands and hair clips. Owl hats are on my hook more often than anything, though.
What is your favorite thing about crocheting and/or blogging? – I love seeing how a ball of yarn (or 10) can go from yards of “thread” to a beautiful piece of art. I also find it relaxing.
I love blogging for several reasons. As a stay at home mom, I feel like the planning and writing keeps help my mind active. I also love meeting other moms and crafters in the blogging community. I’ve met some wonderful people through my little blog and I love it!
What are your favorite yarns (brands or types) to work with? My favorite yarns to work with are 100% cotton or a cotton blend. We live in Florida so it’s important that the yarns are breathable even when it’s “cold.” I typically use Lily Sugar ‘n’ Cream because it’s available almost anywhere and it’s affordable. I also love working with Knit Picks cotton yarns. If I have to pull out acrylic, I like Vanna’s Choice.
What was the inspiration for your pattern? – My almost 3 year old LOVES purses. She literally carries one with her wherever we go (way more often than I do…). I knew she’d love a fun little bag to carry around. Her reaction did not disappoint – she was thrilled and carries this one almost as much as her pink polkadot purse. I designed it with kids in mind, but it’s plenty big for adults, too!
Tell me about your personal life… – I’m married to my best friend, David (he’s the youth and assistant pastor at our church) and a teacher turned stay-at-home-mom to two adorable little girls. Caroline will be one in March and Riley Grace will turn three later the same month. When I’m not cleaning up their messes or playing with my girls, you’ll find me crocheting, blogging about life, or preschooling my toddler. We’re unbelievably blessed and can’t wait to see what God has in store for our future.
Be sure to check out Daisy Cottage Designs for lots more great FREE crochet patterns. And as always…
