Sea Breeze Summer Slouch

June 11, 2013 By: Lorene

Lightweight Crochet
Summer Slouch Hat

I recently was approached by AllFreeCrochet to review a new style of yarn from Darn Good Yarn.  The yarn I was given was Silk Cloud. Silk Cloud is made from 100% reclaimed silk from Nepal and India. Darn Good Yarn uses all recycled materials to help impoverished women make a difference in their lives and the lives of their families.

This lightweight yarn and gorgeous colorways screamed summer, so I set out to design crochet patterns that could be worn all summer long.  I created two patterns exclusively for fans of AllFreeCrochet the Sea Breeze Summer Cowl and the Sunburst Vacation Wrap.

I had so much fun making these two patterns that I decided to turn the yarn I had left over into two different cre8tions, the first is this lightweight summer slouch hat.

If you would like to make your own hat using this yarn than be sure to use coupon code Cre8 when you place  your order for an extra 5% off.

This hat is a simple design and easy to make, even for a beginner. The gorgeous colorway make even this simple design look like an intricate design. I hope you enjoy working with this yarn as much as I did.

Materials:
Darn Good Yarn’s Anamika Silk Yarn in Mermaid at the Sea (less than one skein)
4.0mm crochet hook
small needle to weave in ends

Special Stitches:
mc/r– magic circle/ring (watch this video tutorial)

fpdc– front post double crochet- great tutorial HERE
same as a regular double crochet except instead on inserting the hook in the st as normal, you insert the hook into the post, working from front to back, and back to front, then complete your dc as normal

dc2tog– half double crochet two together
insert hook in first st. Yarn over and pull through st (two loops on hook). Insert hook into 2nd st. Yarn over and pull through st (three loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through first two loops on hook, yarn over again and pull through last two loops on hook.

Notes:
You may find it hard to sl st into the top of the ch3 (image says ch2, sorry) to join each round, if this is the case then instead you can sl st into the space between the 1st and 2nd posts instead. Then you will sl st into the 2nd st as written in next line.
