Boho Chic Statement Necklace

August 11, 2013 By: Lorene

Make a Statement
Boho Chic B
ib Necklace
featuring At The Bahama’s Recycled Silk Sari Ribbon
by Darn Good Yarn

Do you want to help save the earth Or simply make a bold statement with your jewelry?  Well look no further, this is the perfect necklace for you.  I love BIG bold statement pieces.  Especially those that I can make myself.

I recently released a pattern that featured these shabby chic recycled sari ribbon flowers and I fell in love.  I was instantly inspired to create this fashionable statement necklace using At The Bahama’s Recycled Silk Ribbon from Darn Good Yarn.

This piece is simple to make yet looks like it took all day!  When you wear it you can tell your fiends how you helped save the earth by using completely recycled and reclaimed silk that would have otherwise ended up in a landfill.  What a great way to start a conversation at the dinner table.

thread- I used upholstery thickness
1 piece of felt
4 jump rings
necklace chain and findings (if they don’t already come with your necklace)

To assemble necklace:

Lay your desired finished design onto a piece of paper.  (I took a picture so I could remember the way I had them laid out)

Roughly trace around your design.  Draw 1/2-1″ inside this line and cut out.  Cut out a piece of felt to the size of the paper cutting.

Place the flowers on the felt piece in the same manner you laid them out.  Check to make sure no felt is showing through around flowers.  If so trim again.

Attach to felt using needle and thread or hot glue the on.  I recommend doing both for added security.  Be sure to leave one corner at the top edge of either side of felt free to attach to your chain in the next step.

Attach to necklace or chain of your choice.  (one side attached to each side of the bib, if your using pre fab chain you will have to cut the chain in half using pliers).  Stitch on to secure.
