This Nautilus Baby Beanie is super adorable.  Brought to you by our contributor Leah Feild, Creative Threads by Leah.  The pattern comes in four sizes for free.  Child and Adult sizes are available as a paid pattern in Leah’s Ravelry store (links below)

Materials

  • Yarn – Caron Simply Soft or Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton in 2 colors
  • Hook – H
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Stitch marker

Abbreviations and stitches required

  • mc: magic circle (picture and written tutorial HERE)
  • ch: chain
  • slst: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • hdc: half double crochet
  • hdc dec: half double crochet decrease
  • dc: double crochet
  • dc inc: double crochet increase
  • htrc: half treble crochet
  • htrc inc: half treble crochet increase
  • trc: treble crochet
  • trc inc: treble crochet increase
  • BLO: back loop only
  • FLO: front loop onlv
  • st(s): stitch(es)

Notes:

  • Hat body is worked off of the spiral. Some of the hat is worked in turned rounds and the rest is worked in a continuous round.
  • Round 2 on of spiral is worked BLO to leave the front loops open for contrast stitches. It may be helpful to place a stitch marker in the first open front loop and leave it there until done with contrast stitches.
  • The circumference of the hat will have a negative ease of 2-3 inches. The pattern is written in the following sizes:
    •  Newborn (12-13 inches)
    • 0-3 month (13-14 inches)
    • 3-6 month (15-16 inches)
    • 6-12 month (17-19 inches)
  • Pattern is written for Newborn with changes for larger sizes in parentheses
