Breezy Shell Tank

This breezy shell tank top is super easy to make.  This tank is constructed in two simple pieces which are then stitched up the sides.  The color change at the bodice and the short slit up the side add to the visual appeal.

Patons Silk Bamboo
Coral or Moss- 400 yards*
Stone- 30 yards*
*yardage is based on XS size, you will need more for larger sizes.  You can substitute any natural fiber #3 weight yarn

STITCH GUIDE
CA – color A, CB – color Bch(s) – chain(s), dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), WS – wrong side, RS – right side

SPECIAL STITCHES

FSC-Foundation Single Crochet
ch2.  Insert hook in 1st ch *yarn over and pull up loop (2 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 1 loop, creating a sl st,  (this is an important step but easy to forget).  Yarn over again and pull through two remaining loops on hook.  This completes the first fsc.  To stitch the next fsc insert the hook into the sl st made in the 1st fsc and repeat from*

SH– Shell
[2dc. Ch1. 2dc] in same stitch/space

  • Pattern is written in size XS-S.  Changes for M-L, 1x and 2x are in parenthesis.
  • Ch3 is considered first dc.  Last st of every row will be placed in Ch3 from previous row.
  • Each SH will be placed in the Ch1 of SH from previous row.
  • St counts appear in <brackets> at the end of each row.
  • Straps in pattern are labeled as would be shown when worn.

Row 2:  Ch 3, turn, dc in same st, *Skip 3sts, SH in next st, repeat from * to last 4sts, skip 3sts, 2dc in last st.  <2dc. 12 (14, 16, 18) SH. 2dc>

Rows 3-31 (32, 33, 34):  Ch 3, turn, dc in same st, *SH in next SH, repeat from * to last 2dc, 2dc in last dc.  <2dc. 12 (14, 16, 18) SH. 2dc>

Row 32 (33, 34, 35):  Change to CB.  Ch 3, turn, dc in same st, *SH in next SH, repeat from * to last 2dc, 2dc in last dc.  <2dc. 12 (14, 16, 18) SH. 2dc>

FINISHING

  1. Mark the 9th (9th, 10th, 10th) row from bottom (8th and 9th shells respectively)
  2. Place RS together and use yarn or stitch markers to “pin” in place prior to stitching together
  3. Starting at the marked row and working upwards; mattress st (tutorial HERE) to the top of row 32 (33, 34, 35), on both sides
  4. Mattress Stitch tops of straps
