Dancing Ribbons Slouchy Hat
This is a new piece to the Dancing Ribbons line. I was inspired to do the slouchy hat with spring in mind. I love the look of the twists in the pattern because it reminds me of the twists in a ribbon in the wind.

Gauge: 2 completed TwSt x 2 TwSt rows = 3″ x 3″
Crown gauge: R1-R6 = 6″ across
STITCH GUIDE
MC – magic circle, ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, hdc – half double crochet, fphdc – front post half double crochet, dc – double crochet, dc4tog – double crochet 4 together, st(s) – stitch(es), slst – slip stitch, YO – yarn over
SPECIAL STITCHES
BegTwSt– Beginning Twisted St
Starting in first st, dc4tog, Ch 2, *YO and insert hook through all 5 loops that were pulled through for the dc4tog and draw up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through the remaining 2 loops (dc made).* Repeat *to* 3 more times.
TwSt– Twisted stitch
YO 3 times, dc4tog in next 4 sts. (3 loops remain)
Using remaining 3 loops dc, *YO and insert hook through all 5 loops that were pulled through for the dc4tog and draw up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through the remaining 2 loops (dc made).* Repeat *to* 2 more times.
A. dc4tog in Ch 3, 4, 5, and 6
B. Hook shows where to insert for front loops
C. Hook is through the 5 loops to start a dc
D.Loop pulled through, ready to do dc
E. One completed dc
F. One completed Beg Twisted Stitch G. YO 3 times, insert into next st
H. Beg of dc4tog, ready to pull through 5 loops ONLY
I. Completed dc4tog, 3 loops left for first dc
J. 1 complete beg twist st and 1 complete twist st
NOTES
- The fphdc stitches do NOT line up in the crown. They are staggered on purpose for texture.
- The fphdc in the following rows DO NOT line up, they are opposite giving a woven effect.

R1: ch1, 8 hdc in MC, join. Pull tight to close circle. <8 hdc >
R2: ch1, hdc in same st as join, fphdc same st, *(hdc, fphdc same st)* repeat *to* around. Join. <8 hdc, 8 fphdc >
R3: ch1, (hdc, fphdc same st), hdc in next, *(hdc, fphdc in same st), hdc in next* repeat *to* around. Join. <16 hdc, 8 fphdc >
R4: ch1, (hdc, fphdc same st), hdc next 2, *(hdc, fphdc same st), hdc next 2* repeat *to* around. Join. <24 hdc, 8 fphdc >
R5: ch1, hdc in same and next 2, (hdc, fphdc in same)* hdc 3, (hdc, fphdc in same st)* repeat *to* around. Join. <32 hdc, 8 fphdc >
R6: ch1, hdc in same, (hdc, fphdc in same st), hdc 4, *(hdc, fphdc in same), hdc 4* repeat *to* around, ending with hdc 3 in last 3 sts. Join. <40 hdc, 8 fphdc >
R7: ch2, begTwSt, TwSt around. Join. <12 TwSt st>
R8: slst over to 3rd dc of TwSt from previous row. ch2, BegTwSt, (last 2 sts of first TwSt and first 2 of second TwSt of previous row) TwSt around. Join. <12 TwSt>
R9-11: Repeat R8 (If you would like extra slouch, repeat once more) <12 TwSt>
R12 (13): ch1, sc around. Join to first sc. <48 st>

R13 (14): CH1, hdc in same st as joining, * fphdc in NEXT st, hdc next* around. Join. (48 sts>
R14 (15): CH1, fphdc in same st as join, * hdc in NEXT st, fphdc next* around. Join. <48 sts>
R15-R16 (16-17): Repeat R13 and R14 once.
FINISHING
After R16 (17), fasten off and weave in ends
