Caron Simply Soft (or comparable #4/worsted weight), less than 300yds.
MATERIALS
Hook: J/10 (6mm) and K/10 1/2 (6.5mm)
Scissors, stitch markers, measuring tape

(With J hook) 2 fans x 3 rows=2″x 2″ square. 4 chs=1″
STITCH GUIDE
ch(s) – chain(s), dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), sl st – slip stitch
SPECIAL STITCHES
Fan – (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in designated stitch
NOTES
● Pattern is written as toddler size with instructions for larger sizes in [ ]’s
PATTERN
(R1-R3[R4, R5] with J hook, remaining rows with K hook)
ch65 [73, 77]
Row 1: Fan in 5th ch from hook (creates one turning chain and one fan), *skip next THREE chs, fan in the next st*, repeat from * – * til 4sts remain, skip next THREE sts, dc in last st, turn (15 fans [17, 18])
Row 2:Ch3, work a fan into each ch2 SPACE across, dc in turning chain, turn (15 fans [17, 19])
Repeat R2 til piece measures approximately 7″ [9″, 10 1/2″] tall, bring ends together to form a tube, sl st through both sides to create back seam (approximately 36sts [40, 46]). Fasten off and weave in ends.
FINISHING
(With wrong side/seam side facing out)
Assembly
Lay piece flat with seam centered. Attach yarn at upper right corner through BOTH layers w/sl st. Sl st LOOSELY through both layers across to close up the top. Fasten off and weave in ends. Turn hat right side out.
Pom Poms (make 2)
(Use tutorial provided at beginning of pattern or create your own)
Attach one pom pom to each of the two upper corners. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Edge trim
(Using J hook, wrong side facing out)
Attach yarn at back seam w/sl st, sc in same st and in each st around, join w/sl st in first sc, fasten off and weave in ends.”
