Pixie Bonnet Style Crochet Hat in Unique

This adorable pixie style crochet hat combines the look of a bonnet with the function of a beanie. It is designed using Unique Yarn by Lion Brand Yarns in Mirage. It combines simple dc and sc stitches for this super cute look.

YARN
Approx 45 (50, 60) yards Unique Yarn by Lion Brand Yarns
# 5, Bulky Weight Yarn, 3.50 oz./100 g (109 yd/100 m)
in Mirage or your choice of color

MATERIALS
9.0mm (M/N) hook – I used my Plum Candy Hook Furls Crochet to make the Unique Pixie Bonnet Style Crochet Hat.
Yarn needle

DIFFICULTY
Easy

FINISHED SIZE
Small/ 1-2 years- 18″
Medium/ 2-5 years- 19″
Large/ 5-7 years- 20″

GAUGE
9 sts and 5 rows= 4″

STITCH GUIDE
sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), sl st – slip stitch

NOTES

  • ch 3 counts as first dc, sl st into the top of the ch 3 to join each round
  • ch 1 does not count as first sc, sl st into the top of the first sc, skipping over ch 1 to join each sc round,
  • st counts appear in the <> brackets of each round

PATTERN

ALL SIZES

Round 1:  Ch 4, 7 dc in the 4th ch from hook <8>

Round 2:  Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in each st around <9>

Round 3: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in each st around <10>

Round 4:  Ch 3, dc in same st, 2dc in every st around <20>

Round 5:  Ch 3, dc in same st, dc next st, *2dc next st, dc next st, repeat from * around <30>

Small/ 1-2 years only

Rounds 6-9:  Ch 3, dc in next st and every st around <30>

Round 10:  Ch 1, sc in same st, sc next st and every st around <30>

You will now be working in rows
Rows 11-16:   Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, sc next 23 sts, do not fasten, skip to finishing <24>

Medium/ 2-5 years only

Round 6:  Ch 3, dc same st, dc in next 5 sts, *2dc next st, dc in next 5 sts, repeat from * around <35>

Rounds 7-10:  Ch 3, dc in next st and every st around <35>

Round 11: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc next st and every st around <35>

You will now be working in rows
Rows 11-17:   Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, sc next 26 sts, do not fasten, skip to finishing <27>

Large/ 5-7 years only

Round 6: Ch 3, dc same st, dc in next 2 sts, *2dc next st, dc in next 2 sts, repeat from * around <40>

Rounds 7-10: Ch 3, dc in next st and every st around <40>

Round 11: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc next st and every st around <40>

You will now be working in rows
Rows 11-17: Ch 1, turn, sc in same st, sc next 29 sts, do not fasten, skip to finishing <30>

FINISHING

Ch 24 (27, 30), sl st back up all 24 (27, 30) sts, sl across front 24 (27, 30) sts, ch 30, sl st back up all 24 (27, 30) sts, fasten off and weave in ends.
