Summer Lovin’ Scarf

A perfect accessory for warm summer days driving with the top down and breezy evenings spent at the beach.  The stitch is a little addictive, so you might want to make one in all your favorite summer colors.

Summer Lovin'- a free summer crochet scarf pattern. You can also wear this fun scarf as a head wrap.

Premier Cotton Fair 150-200 yards

MATERIALS
I hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
Scissors
Yarn Needle
Tape measure

DIFFICULTY

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
(not including fringe): 6 1/2″ x 37″

GAUGE
5 dc / 4 Sk x 8 rows slightly stretched = 4″

STITCH GUIDE

ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), sl st – slip stitch

SPECIAL STITCHES

NOTES

  • Working in rows unless otherwise noted. Turn at the end of every row.
  • This scarf also works great as a head wrap

PATTERN

Ch 147

Row 1: Make 1 Sk, skip 6 ch, 1 dc in next ch, (Make 1 Sk, skip next 3 ch, 1 dc in next ch) repeat to end of row. <36 Sk, 37 dc>

Row 2: Ch 3, skip first dc, (Make 1 Sk, dc in next dc) repeat to last Sk in previous row, make 1 Sk, dc in the top of the turning chain. <36 Sk, 37 dc>

Rows 3-12: Repeat row 2

Row 13: Ch 6, (dc in next dc, ch 3) repeat to end of row, dc in top of turning ch. Do not turn. <36 ch 3 sps, 37 dc>

Border: Rotate piece to work in the row ends. Ch 1, evenly space 32 sc down row ends. Rotate piece to work into foundation chs, work 1 sc into ea ch. Rotate piece to work into opposite row ends, evenly space 32 sc up row ends. Rotate piece to work into last row, sc in ea dc and 3 sc into ea ch 3 space. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

If using a contrasting color for border, fasten off main color and weave in ends. Attach border color to the last sc of the last round.

Round 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc of previous round, (ch 4, skip next 3 sc, sc in next sc) repeat 7 times. Sc in ea sc across bottom row. (ch 4, skip next 3 sc, sc in next sc) repeat 7 times. Sc in ea sc across top row. Fasten off and weave in ends.

FINISHING

Fringe:

For each row end ch sp, cut 8 strands of yarn approx. 12″ long. Holding all strands together, fold in half and pull folded loop through the ch sp from back to front. Pull all ends through loop and pull tight. Repeat for remaining ch sps.
