Winter Lilac Cowl Free Crochet Pattern

August 18, 2016 By: Cre8tion Crochet

Winter Lilac Cowl

This Winter Lilac Cowl is a tall cowl that when worn will gather at your neck keeping you warm and comfortable. It’s also not as long as other cowls making it great for wearing just underneath your coat. It’s a quick and easy cowl to work up using stitch combinations resembling a sideways “V” you see in knit projects.

This Winter Lilac Cowl will keep your neck warm, comfortable and stylish this coming winter. You can make yours in more than one color to make the "V" sideways stitch stand out more.

YARN

  • Yarn – KnitPicks Wool of the Andes, #5, Bulky, 137 yards (2)

MATERIALS

  • Hook – K/6.5mm hook
  • Notions – needle for weaving in ends; buttons for accent

DIFFICULTY
Beginner

FINISHED SIZE
16.5” L x 10.5” H

GAUGE
10 hdc rows x 11 hdc stitches = 4”

STITCH GUIDE
Ch – chain; st(s) – stitch(es); ea – each; blo – back loop only; sc – single crochet; hdc – half double crochet; sl st – slip stitch; FHDC – foundation half double crochet

SPECIAL STITCHES
FHDC – See Moogly blog for tutorial here.

NOTES

  • Ch1 does not equal a stitch. Place your first stitch of each round in the same st and through both loops.
  • You can make your cowl longer by crocheting a longer FHDC. You can also make it taller or shorter by repeating the pattern row however many times you desire.
  • To make your “V” stand out more, change colors at the beginning of each sl st row, which is row 2.
