Hi! This is Kami. Be sure to come join me over on Instagram and say Hi.

I have been thinking about making a crochet belt for a couple years. Having never made one before I was concerned over how it would hold up with repeated use. However I decided that I would never know until I tried. Although I looked at several designs I settled on the Boho Crochet Belt. Since it uses the thermal stitch it makes a dense fabric with less stretch. Additionally it looks similar to store bought fabric belts. Furthermore the tie closure adds some interest to this simple belt. This belt would be great with a dress but I modified mine a little to make it perfect for jeans as well. All my modification notes can be found below.

What Materials Do You Need to Crochet a Belt?

  • 110 yards of Sport Weight (2) yarn – I used Premier Cotton Fair in Cream
  • 3 mm Crochet Hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Boho Crochet Belt, Free Crochet Pattern from Fosbas Designs

Material Notes:

This pattern was written for worsted weight (4) yarn. Using worsted weight, it had a width of 3 inches. Knowing that I didn’t want my belt that wide, I decided to use a sport weight (2) yarn. Using the pattern instructions my belt is 1.5 inches wide. At this width it will fit through standard belt loops offering more options for wear. Although I feel like cotton yarn would be the best choice for a belt, I used Premier Cotton Fair, which is a cotton blend. Because this belt uses the thermal stitch the acrylic should help add a slight stretch. However with a different stitch I feel like this yarn choice might be too stretchy.

Although I left my belt plain, I think that adding beads to the ties would be amazing. If this belt holds up well, I will be making another one with beads.

How Long Does it Take to Crochet a Belt?

This belt took approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes to make. With the simple stitching and easy repeat this is a project that doesn’t require complete concentration. I made it while I watched TV.

What Size is a Boho Crochet Belt?

My belt measures 1.5 inches wide and 26 inches long not including the ties.  Ties are approximately 10 inches long.

Gauge:

I didn’t use the designer’s gauge since I was looking for a different result. My gauge was 24 stitches by 18 rows equals 4 inches in thermal stitch.

All About the Boho Crochet Belt:

I made a few small changes to my belt.  First, I changed the yarn weight.  Additional details on this are in the material notes.  Secondly, since my belt was narrower than the original, I made fewer ties.  The original belt had four but I felt it was too bulky with the smaller belt.  Adding the ties in the 1st, 5th and last stitches worked out great.  Finally I also made my ties just slightly shorter than the original.  The original called for 77 chains and I reduced mine to 67 chains.

Overall I am happy with the look of my finished Boho Crochet Belt.  I am really hoping that it wears well so that I can make more!
