The Denali Cowl is a great textured cowl design. It features a mix of single crochet and double crochet used in alternating cluster stitches to create a subtle texture and drape. This design can be made in a variety of color combinations. Each color change highlights the change in stitches.
This textured cowl is created using Whims Merino by Furls Crochet. Whims is a Merion/Nylon blend that is made in a Z Twist, this means that your yarn won’t unravel as you are working with it. The fiber content along with the twist gives this yarn amazing stitch definition. Furls now has Whims Merino in both DK and Worsted.

SPECIAL STITCHES
Fhdc- Foundation Half Double Crochet – Tutorial
Chain 3 (counts as first fhdc). Yarn over (YO) and insert hook in 3rd chain from hook *YO and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), YO and pull through 1 loop creating a chain, (this is an important step but easy to forget), YO and pull through all three loops on hook. This completes the second fhdc (remember your first ch3 counted as the first fhdc). To stitch the next fhdc, yarn over and insert the hook into the chain made in the 2nd fhdc and repeat from * to desired length or until the desired amount of sts are achieved.
PS- Puff Stitch
Yarn over (YO), insert hook into the indicated st/sp, YO and pull up a loop to the height of a dc st, [YO and insert your hook into the same st/sp, YO and pull up a long loop] 2 times more, you will have 7 loops on your hook, YO and pull through all 7 loops on hook. Finish the puff st with a ch-1.
NOTES
- Ch 1 does not count as the first st.
- Pattern is worked in turned rounds.
