You can read my review of Pricing Fairly for Maximum Profit here
In the meantime let’s get to know Sedie.
1- How long have you been crocheting?
I have been crocheting for about 11 years. I decided to learn when I met my husband’s grandmother before we were married. She did all sorts of crafts, so I decided to pick up one.
2- How long have you been blogging?
I started blogging in 2004 soon after we got married and moved across the country away from family and friends. It was my way of keeping in touch. My first blog was a family blog where I just talked a lot about what was happening in our lives. Then I created a yarn blog when I started crocheting more and moved into selling, that was about 2005. I really became serious about blogging in 2011 because I could see how it helped my business connections. In 2012, I transitioned my blog to the one I have now where there is less about me and my crochet journey and more crochet information on all fronts especially growing a crochet business.
3- What are your favorite items to make?
I love to make clothing pieces which take up more time than average, but I think there is more of a thirst for unique clothing pieces in the marketplace. I also sell the patterns rather than completed pieces in order to feed the hungry crocheter crowd 😉
4- what is your favorite thing about crocheting and or blogging?
I love to crochet because it tends to be instant gratification for a job well done. I can get through a project, depending on the size, within an hour or a few weeks, but watching it develop is so much fun and the simple movements really relax me. I have come to love blogging because I have a clear vision of what I want my blog to be and I love my topic. Because I blog about crochet as an art, the challenges of a crochet business and growing a crochet business, I have lots of material to work with so I’m never completely stumped. I also love blogging because I’ve given myself a schedule to do it and it’s been working really well. Sharing the information I learn is such a joy! If someone visits my blog and learns one thing they didn’t know before, I’m being a successful blogger as far as I’m concerned.
5 – What was your inspiration for your book “Pricing Crochet Fairly for Maximum Profit“?
Whenever I visited crochet forums and boards there was always one question that was asked consistently, “How much should I charge for this?” or “Is this price too high for this item?”. The more I saw that question the more I wondered why it was always around. Hadn’t anyone answered the question? So I did a bit of research and realized that there was no one out there talking specifically about pricing crochet pieces or skills for the marketplace. Because of my marketing background I knew that pricing could not be done in a vacuum, so I took the information I had, did some research on the crochet marketplace and thus the book was born. You could say, the marketplace asked for the book. I was just the vehicle it arrived through.
6 – Tell me a little something about your personal life… kids, family, pets, etc.
I am married to an amazing man whom I met at work over 13 years ago. We were friends for a year, dated for a year and got married the third year. We have now been married for 10 wonderful years and have added a son and daughter into our family. My son is 6 and it has been so much fun to watch him develop. He is so varied in his personality, but always just a love bug. My daughter turns 2 in April and she’s just a little firecracker! She is fiercely independent and that is going to truly be a blessing to her later in life. We don’t currently have any pets but we are contemplating getting a dog once we’re able to move to a new home and the kids are a bit older. In the meantime we enjoy my brother’s dog and when we visit my husband’s parents we enjoy the two dogs and four horses there! I am truly blessed with amazing extended family on both mine and my husband’s side so I count myself lucky every day. My mission is to freely spread the blessings I have overflowing in my life. I think the more grateful I am, the more peace I have, the more joy I can spread. And that’s what it’s all about isn’t it?
