Lets get to know Jessie…
How long have you been crocheting?
My great grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was 8 years old. I have never stopped! I didn’t learn to read a pattern until I was in my 20’s, as my grandmother taught me the basics and how to simply “make what I needed.” She was an amazing woman!
How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog back in 2008, but I didn’t really start posting regularly until a just over a year ago.
What are your favorite items to make?
I love making things that make people happy! However I guess if there were no other factors, and I could just crochet anything, I really enjoy crocheting granny squares/circle/hexagons, and making all sorts of fun finished items out of them!
What is your favorite thing about crocheting andor blogging?
My favorite thing about crocheting is the ability to make whatever I can imagine. My favorite thing about blogging is the ability to share with others, and I LOVE comments. It shows me that I am not just talking to my laptop.
What is your favorite yarn, hook or material?
I have recently fallen in love with Berroco Comfort yarn. It comes in several weights and many colors. The best part is it is completely wash and wear. It washes up very soft and shrinks only a small amount. I am also very fond of Bernat Softee Baby, it doesn’e have the various weight or as many colors, but it also washes wonderfully. As a mother of 5 year old twins, who I love to make things for, wash and wear is very important to me!
What was your inspiration for this item?
I wanted to make ear warmers for the girls’ principal. Something that buttoned in back, so she wouldn’t have to worry about messing up her hair. I wanted the ear warmers to be wide enough to cover the ears, yet narrow at the bottom, and I wanted them to stay on your head. So I made a pattern that fit my wants and needs!
Tell us a little about yourself and your family.
I was a costume designer before I married. That life provided me with a very full history, and amazing journeys all over the country. As much as I loved that life, I knew my real happiness lied in having a family. I am very thankful to have found that happiness. I am quite blessed with my family. I have a wonderful husband who I know loves me very much, and our girls are pretty amazing. That being said, we are in no way perfect. Money is quite a struggle right now, as it is with so many. There are times I seriously wish the hospital took returns. I often have a hard time remembering to pick up after myself. We are really just a normal family.
I hope you enjoyed getting to know Jessie. Visit her site Jessie At Home for lots of other free crochet patterns. Jessie also sells some of her patterns, check them out too!
