Happy National Crochet Month
March is National Crochet Month and I am helping to celebrate this fun occasion with the wonderful ladies of Crochetville, Amy and Donna. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting these fun ladies in person on a couple of different occasions. The first time I met them was when attending my very first CGOA meeting. These wonderful souls took me under their wing, showed me around, and helped me to navigate the waters.
When they asked me to be a part of their NatCroMo celebration I just couldn’t say no; especially when they told me what their theme was, The Crochet Concert Blog Tour. It is all about using music as creative inspiration. You can check out their tour here.
How Music Inspires MY Creativity
Creativity is inspired by all that surrounds and reaches my sense gates. From the colors of all the seasons to the comforting breezes on my skin, and to the sounds I hear, I’m inspired to create and to crochet. Music has always been an inspiration for me. There are times that I’d plug in and turn on some music as I crochet.
From the melodic rhythms of music to the lyrical poetry of words, I can crochet while swaying and rocking to the beats. There’s no one specific genre of music that I choose to listen to while crocheting. If the beat of the song is fabulous and the words of the song hit my core, my ears perk up, my brain releases dopamine and the ideas just start flowing.
Oftentimes, I’ll put on some music, pick up my yarn and hook and crochet with no direction in mind, and I end up with a piece that can be turned into a garment or accessory.
How I’m celebrating with you
Two of my designs were names after some fun, catchy songs that make you want to sing, dance, and just sway. Matter of fact, you can listen to them while you crochet these pieces. Get BOTH patterns free at the bottom of this post!
The Rolling in the Deep is a stunning infinity scarf that uses two bold, contrasting colors in a striping pattern made with the Chevron stitch. The stitch and colors create a rolling effect that starts off with small striping and grows into deeper striping. The effect is mesmerizing.
The Hump de Bump Beanie is a fun design that I loved working on. With this hat, you can get as creative with colors as you’d like. It’s a great stash-busting hat. This hat is named after one of my favorite group’s songs that’s super catchy and fun to dance to. How does music inspire you to crochet?
