Aunt Lydia’s #5 Mercerized Cotton Thread by Red Heart- Metallic in Gold

MATERIALS
3.75mm (F) hook
small needle to finish

DIFFICULTY

NOTES
• These items are for use as a photo prop ONLY. Use only with supervision. Do not leave child unattended for any amount of time while wearing these photo props.
• Ch3 counts as first dc
• Each new shell row will begin in the center/ch2 of the shell from previous row (instructions are included in pattern)


FINISHED MEASUREMENT
8” diameter
crown is meant to sit on top of head, not to fit around it, but you can customize in any way you like.

STITCH GUIDE
ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, hdc – half double crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es)

SPECIAL STITCHES

FHDC– foundation half double crochet
Chain 2 (counts as 1st fhdc). Yarn over and insert hook in 2nd chain from hook. *Yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 1 loop creating a sl st, (this is an important step but easy to forget). Yarn over again and pull through all three loops on hook. This completes the second fhdc (remember your 1st ch2 counted as the 1st fdc). To stitch the next fhdc, yarn over and insert the hook into the sl st made in the 2nd fhdc and repeat from *

SH– Shell
2dc. Ch2. 2dc

Picot SH– Picot Shell
2dc. Picot- 2dc

Picot– Ch3. Sl st into 3rd ch from hook


PATTERN

Round 1: FHDC 42. Join by Sl St to form ring. (to change size begin with a FHDC in multiples of 3)

Rounds 2-3: 1hdc in every st around.

Round 4: Ch3. 1dc. Ch2. 2dc in the first st. *Skip 2sts. SH in next st. Repeat from * around. Sl st into the top of the Ch3 to join round.

Round 5: Sl st into the next dc. Sl st into the Ch2 space. Ch3. 1dc. Ch2. 2dc in the first st. *Skip 2sts. SH in every Ch-2 sp around. Repeat from * around. Sl st into the top of the Ch3 to join round.

Round 6: Sl st into the next dc. Sl st into the Ch2 sp. Ch3. 1dc. picot. 2dc in the first st. Picot SH in every Ch-2 sp around. Fasten off and weave in ends.

FINISHING

Block or starch the finished crown if desired- I did not starch or block mine and it worked perfectly.
