Recycled Silk Sari Ribbon
Arm Knit Necklace
A FREE Darn Good Yarn Pattern
I recently designed the next pattern for Darn Good Yarn (kit coming soon) and I had a little recycled silk sari ribbon left over. I decided to use it up and make a little free pattern bonus to go with the pattern.
This necklace is quick and easy to work up and fun to make. Also a great way to use up those scraps you just can’t bear to part with.
To make this necklace you will need to know how to arm knit. I recommend this video. It is the easiest one I have seen.
Materials
6-8 yards of Recycled Silk Sari Ribbon yarn by Darn Good Yarn- In 3-6 colors/strands
large holed beads- optional
jewelry findings- optional
Three strand necklace:
- Using three strands of ribbon, cast on 4 stitches
- Arm knit for 5 rows and cast off on 6th row
- Tie a knot on either end of the finished knit (figure A)
- Skip to optional finish below
Six strand necklace:
- Using six strands of ribbon, cast on 3 stitches
- Arm knit for 4 rows and cast off on 5th row
- Tie a knot on either end of the finished knit (figure A)
- Skip to optional finish below

Optional Finish:
- You can add beads in any fashion you like and either tie your tails in a knot or add jewelry findings to give the necklace a more polished look.
- I did my beads in two different ways. For the three strand necklace I simply strung on three beads (going through each strand) and tied a knot in between. I then took a couple scrap pieces of ribbon and tied a long knot in between each bead.
- For the six stranded necklace I strung a bead using only 2 strands, tied all 6 strands together and repeated for 2 more beads.
- I chose to add jewelry findings to my necklaces for a polished look. Be sure to measure where the necklace will lie before finalizing placement of findings.
- Wear your new recycled silk sari necklace and enjoy.
*Disclaimer- I was inspired to make this arm knitting necklace from a picture I saw of Vickie Howel, wearing an arm knit necklace during a demonstration on arm knitting at the CHA conference in January. I have just been informed that she has also released a pattern for an arm knitted necklace. I have not seen this pattern so I do not know how similar it is.
