A Craftsy Sponsored Post
I recently reviewed a free class on Craftsy called Amazing Crochet Textures, taught by Drew Emborsky (you can read all about it and get your free class HERE).
After reviewing that class, I feel down the rabbit hole of all the amazing classes available on Craftsy. Craftsy is an amazing online resource that offers online classes for all sorts of different crafty topics, from crochet to knitting, photography to cake decorating, almost anything you can imagine. These classes bring skilled artisans right into your home, and the classes never expire, so you can watch them over and over again.
The latest class I have had the pleasure of watching is Crochet Basics and Beyond, taught by Kim Werker. This class is the perfect class for any beginner or someone who is relearning crochet. I myself will be gifting this class to some family members who want to learn to crochet but aren’t close enough for me to teach them in person.
I’m also very pleased to be able to offer my readers an exclusive chance to win this class for free. Please read my review below and be sure to enter for a chance to get this great class yourself. Giveaway will ends Friday November 7th, 2014 at 11:59pm MT
In Crochet Basics and Beyond, Kim Werker takes her students through the very basics to every skill you will need to crochet any pattern or design. She will go over what yarn is used for what type of projects, how to read yarn labels, choosing the right hook and much more. Kim also teaches all the skills necessary to crochet all the basic stitches and read patterns. She will show you that even the most intricate of designs are all made up of the same basic stitches.
The very first skill Kim teaches is ripping out your work, or as we like to call it, “frogging” (rip it, rip it… get it?). She explains why frogging is an important part of learning how to crochet and encourages you to make mistakes, it is the only way you will learn. You will also learn about what pitfalls you may encounter in crochet, how to troubleshoot them and how to correct those issues. Because of this, Crochet Basics and Beyond is also great for people who have been crocheting for a little while but isn’t quite proficient yet.
In Crochet Basics and Beyond, Kim teaches every foundation skill you will need to make any design or pattern, such as; how to read patterns and charts, making rows, creating granny squares, working in the round, changing colors and much more. She does a great job of explaining gauge and teaching how to measure for accuracy, and how to correct gauging issues. This is an incredibly important skill that many crocheters could use help with.
As with every Craftsy class you will receive course materials that include a handy stitch guide and a free pattern to make a granny square blanket. You will also get the very convenient Metric Conversion Guide. This class, like every Craftsy class, will be available to you forever. You will also have the ability to ask questions and have them answered by Kim herself.
I really enjoyed taking this class. I found it to be very motivational and fun. With her witty teaching style Kim brings everything down to the basics and is able to make crochet a less daunting task, I even learned some new skills myself.
