Kim Guzman is one of the hardest working crochet designers out there. I am proud to call her a friend. Kim is most famous for her Tunisian work but believe me, that is NOT all Kim designs. She has amazing crochet garments, blankets, shawls, scarfs and more.
Be sure to check out her Make it Crochet website, where she shares so many beautiful, free crochet patterns!
In 2019, Kim sold her blog Crochet Kim, and started Make it Crochet in 2022. Most of these designs are from Make it Crochet, but there are a couple from before, which are linked to Ravelry.
Kim has also written more than 20 books (WOW). You can find a full list of them HERE.
Kim sent Lorene this gorgeous blanket that she put together, made up from squares that her bloggy friends had sent to her for Lorene’s new baby. Awe!!!!!

The Wandering Cables Tunisian Crochet Beanie is amazing! I am in awe over this beanie. It is sized for an adult, and can be worked in your favorite worsted weight yarn, though Kim has used Lion Brand’s ReSpun, which is a recycled polyester yarn. Just make sure to check gauge to ensure the finished beanie will fit correctly. If you also love this stitch pattern, she also has a baby blanket worked in the same pattern – the Wandering Cables Baby Blanket.
The Paper Dolls Shawlette is from the Crochet Kim blog. Lightweight worked in WeCrochet Gloss Lace yarn, which is a lovely combination of merino wool and silk, this shawl is perfect for Spring and Fall, and cooler Summer mornings and evening, and would be a great accessory for both casual brunch dates and shopping around town, and special occasions, like a wedding. Want something better for warmer weather? Try a crochet cotton thread, like Curio #10 from WeCrochet.
I love the nubs on this Boucle Skinny Scarf – such a fun yarn! Perfect for a simple design, like this one, so the yarn can be the star of the show. It was worked up in the Pearl base from Arkansas Yarn Co, which is a lovely combination of merino wool and nylon. You may also like Emma’s Yarn Slubby Slub, which is a similar nubby fingering weight yarn. I see this colorway paired with a denim jacket, what about you?
I’ve always enjoyed working ripples up. They’re so fun, and worked in bright colors, like the Happy Tunisian Baby Blanket, it’s sure to bring a smile. Kim has used Lion Brand Mandala Ombre paired with Lion Brand Pound of Love to work up her happy ripple blanket, but you can use your favorite worsted weight yarn. Gauge is not essential so if you wanted a larger blanket without changing the stitch pattern, you could easily go up to a chunky weight #5 or super bulky weight #6 yarn. As is, it’s a great size for a baby, toddler or child or to cover your lap while sitting on the couch, Kim does provide the stitch multiple if you want to alter the stitch count to make it larger.
The Sea Bling Cowl is from the Crochet Kim blog. This cowl was designed using La Boheme from Fiesta Yarns. Sadly, this beautiful yarn has been discontinued, but I think WeCrochet Chroma Worsted or WeCrochet Chroma Twist Worsted would be nice alternatives, and you can make it with just one skein!
The Impeccable Tweed Fingerless Gloves are a great project for stashbusting, and also make a great gift, especially if you pair it with a matching Impeccable Tweed Beanie or Impeccable Tweed Scarf. Work them in your favorite worsted weight yarn. Make sure to take gauge to ensure the gloves will fit correctly. If you are a fan of tweed like I am, Kim has used Loops and Threads Impeccable Tweed. You can also find a couple tweed colorways in Red Heart Super Saver (I personally love the Aran Fleck colorway), Lion Brand Anti Pilling Yarn and Lion Brand Heartland.
Kim describes this Soft Shells Heirloom Baby Blanket as a timeless beauty, and I think that is the perfect description for it! Beautiful shells and lace details make this a lovely baby shower gift! Kim has used Stylecraft Special DK, which is a lightweight #3, 100% acrylic yarn to work up her blanket, but you can use your favorite lightweight yarn. Gauge is not essential so if you wanted a larger blanket without changing the stitch pattern, you could easily go up to a worsted weight #4, chunky weight #5 or super bulky weight #6 yarn. As is, it’s a great size for a baby, toddler or child or to cover your lap while sitting on the couch, Kim does provide the stitch multiple if you want to alter the stitch count to make it larger.
The Aspen Neckwarmer for Her & His Aspen Neckwarmer were originally published on the Caron Yarn website, which was merged into Yarnspirations, and in Crochet! Magazine, November 2008, which is out of print, though you may still find a copy of the issue on eBay or Etsy, but Kim was given permission to post the PDFs as free downloads on Ravelry. Work in your favorite worsted weight yarn. Check gauge to ensure it will fit as designed with the button if this fit is desired, though you can easily sew on buttons wherever fits best or add stitches as working widthwise, and create a scarf.
The Sweet Pea Beanie is created with a 3 row repeat, each row a little different. This fun combination of stitches keeps each round interesting, and produces a beautiful textured fabric. Kim has used Stylecraft Special DK, which is a lightweight #3, 100% acrylic yarn to work up her beanie, but you can use your favorite lightweight yarn. Make sure to check gauge to ensure the finished beanie will fit correctly.
I don’t know what I love more about the On the Vine Shawl – the beautiful, lacy floral pattern or the colorway of Red Heart Unforgettable! Worked in worsted weight yarn, this shawl is perfect for Spring for both casual brunch dates and shopping around town, and special occasions, like a wedding. Gauge is not essential so you can use your favorite worsted weight yarn! Wool blends like WeCrochet Chroma Worsted and WeCrochet Chroma Twist Worsted are great cozier options, and cotton blends like WeCrochet Comfy Color Mist and WeCrochet Shine-Multi are great warm weather options.
The Treads Scarf has such a neat pattern created in a similar way to working Inset Mosaic Crochet, working a taller stitch into a skipped stitch several rows below – I love it! This is the perfect kind of stitch pattern to use that variegated yarn you’ve been saving. Replace the gray with the variegated yarn so it pops through, and use a coordinating solid color over top. Kim has used Stylecraft Special DK, which is a lightweight #3, 100% acrylic yarn to work up her scarf, but you can use your favorite lightweight yarn. Gauge is not essential, but I do recommend working a gauge swatch simply because this scarf is worked lengthwise, which means it takes a lot longer to work each row, and would be a lot of work to frog if the length isn’t long enough or is too long (unless you don’t mind). Prefer a rectangle shawl? Work more repeats to easily turn this into a shawl.
The Mandala Waves Baby Blanket is another fun ripple variation! With the constant increasing and decreasing, this may not be the right project for working on while you binge-watch your favorite show, but it certainly produces a showstopper! Kim has used Lion Brand Mandala to work up her ripple blanket, but you can use your favorite worsted weight yarn.
The Mock Cable Scarf is a soft, squishy and warm tube – I love the look of the tied ends to create a sort of tassel. Due to working in tunisian crochet in the round with a 3 round repeat and bouncing back and forth between the two colors, this may not be the right project for a beginner, or working on while you binge-watch your favorite show, but it certainly produces a showstopper! Kim has used Stylecraft Special DK, which is a lightweight #3, 100% acrylic yarn to work up her scarf, but you can use your favorite lightweight yarn. Gauge is not essential for this project so you can easily switch to a worsted weight #4 weight yarn for something wider and cozier, and work less repeats to achieve the length desired.
The Dragon Scales Baby Blanket is magnificent! Worked in a tunisian stitch pattern created by Kim, it’s just the beginning of many more magnificent designs worked in it. Kim has used Lion Brand Mandala to work up her blanket, but you can use your favorite worsted weight yarn.
The Starlight Cable Shawl reminds me of a blanket I saw many years ago at a flea market. I was so in love with it, but passed up on buying it, and I think about it all the time! I’m actually a bit surprised that I haven’t created my own version, but this shawl has me feeling inspired. Kim has used Stylecraft Special DK, which is a lightweight #3, 100% acrylic yarn to work up her shawl, but you can use your favorite lightweight yarn. Wool blends like WeCrochet Capra DK and WeCrochet Gloss DK are great cozier options, and a cotton blend like WeCrochet Cotlin is a great warm weather option. Prefer a scarf? Kim provides the stitch multiple. I like the idea of either a bobble section, cable section and then bobble section, or a cable section, bobble section and then cable section – both great options!
