Ribbed Shell Tee
The Ribbed Shell Tee is a simple shell lace tee that looks great paired with a tank or tee. Stripe this pattern to your heart’s delight or create it using one solid color for a completely different look. You can add shell rows to the sleeves to make them three-quarter length or long-sleeved. The Ribbed Shell Tee pattern includes directions for two different neck finishes.

MATERIALS
-approximately 1125 (1275, 1475, 1675, 1925) yds of #2 sport/fine weight yarn in color(s) of your choice. Sample is made using Cotton Fair in turquoise and persimmon.
-Crochet hook size G-6 (4mm) or size to obtain correct gauge
-Removable stitch markers (6)
-Darning needle

4 Shells and 8 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in Shell pat.
SPECIAL STITCHES
Fhdc (foundation half double crochet): Ch 3 (counts as first foundation ch and first fhdc), yo and pull up a loop in 3rd ch from hook (3 loops on hook), yo and draw through 1 loop (foundation ch made), yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook (hdc made) – fhdc complete, 2 fhdc total including beg ch. * Yo and pull up a loop in foundation ch of last fhdc made, (3 loops on hook), yo and draw through 1 loop (foundation ch made), yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook (hdc made) – fhdc complete; rep from * to desired number of fhdc.
Hdc2tog (half double crochet 2 together): (Yo, pull up a loop) in each of 2 indicated sts, yo and draw through all 5 loops on hook.
Shell: (2 dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in same st or sp.
Beg Shell (Beginning Shell): Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), (dc, ch 1, 2 dc) all in first st or sp.
Inc Shell (Increase Shell): (Dc, ch 1, 2 dc, ch 1, dc) all in same st or sp.
Note: The Inc Shell will be used in the Yoke. Repeat is worked over 1 shell, and sets it up to become 2 shells on the following rnd.
V-st (V stitch): (Dc, ch 1, dc) in indicated st or sp.
Beg V-st: Ch 4 (counts as 1 dc and 1 ch), dc in first st or sp.
STITCH PATTERN
Shell Pattern (worked back and forth in rows)
Note: The flat version of Shells pat (worked back and forth in rows, instead of rnds) is included here to make gauge swatching easier. In the actual garment, Shell pat is always worked in the rnd.
Row 1: Fhdc a multiple of 4 sts plus 1.
Row 2: Turn, Beg Shell in first st, * sk 3 sts, Shell in next st; rep from * to end.
Row 3: Turn, sl st in each of first 2 dc and in next ch-1 sp, Beg Shell in same ch-1 sp, Shell in each ch-1 sp to end.
Rep Row 3 only for Shell pat.
Shell Pattern (worked in the rnd over a multiple of 4 sts)
Rnd 1 (RS): Beg Shell in first st, * sk 3 sts, Shell in next st; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3, sl st in next dc and in next ch-1 sp.
Rnd 2: Turn, Beg Shell in same sp as last sl st, Shell in each ch-1 sp around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3. [Sl st in next dc and in next ch-1 sp] for all rounds except for last Rnd 2 repeat of body and sleeves.
Rep Rnd 2 only for Shell pattern
NOTES
- Stripe to your heart’s delight! To change colors, work the final sl st of the round with the new color.
- You may add extra Shell pat rows to the Sleeve to make this a long-sleeve top.
- Turn at the beginning of every row or round, except when instructed otherwise in the pattern.
