Hi, I am so glad you have joined us to make this fun and flirty crochet tunic. This top is perfect for someone making a garment for the first time. It offers easy to follow directions and simple construction.
The Sea Isle tunic is created in two panels, back and front. The two panels are then seemed together. I will be providing video resources to you for all the special stitches and seaming.
We will be making this pattern over four weeks, staring on Monday August 14, 2017. In the mean time you can prepare by ordering your supplies, and entering to win the yarn and hook needed to make this pattern below.

What you will need for this CAL
The supplies you’ll need are listed below. You can also enter to win the yarn and hook needed to make this design at the bottom of this post. May the odds be ever in your favor.
I also recommend working on your gauge swatch, so that you will be ready next week.
YARN
Knit Picks Shine Sport (60% pima cotton, 40% modal natural beech wood fiber; 110 yards [100 meters]/50 grams: #23615 Cream (or Color A) 5 (6, 6, 7, 7, 8) skeins, #25779 Pistachio (or Color B) 6 (6, 7, 8, 8, 9) skeins
You can use any sport weight yarn that you prefer, I do recommend a cotton blend. HERE is a list of substitutions you can use. You can also use any colors that you like.
Keep in mind that if you use a different yarn, weight, or fiber content, that your finished results will be very different from mine; not necessarily bad, but different. Also, be sure to get gauge before you start your garment. You don’t want to waste all that time to make a garment that doesn’t fit you.
Lastly, take a couple minutes to read over the notes and to glance over the pattern before starting.
MATERIALS
US size H/8 (5.0 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge
I used my Strawberry Candy Shop Hook from Furls Crochet

14sts and 10.5 rows = 4″ in hdc
(use fhdc for your first row, for continuity)
STITCH GUIDE
ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, hdc – half double crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), BLO – back loop only, RS – right side,
SPECIAL STITCHES
Fhdc (foundation half double crochet): Chain 3 (counts as first fhdc). Yarn over and insert hook in 3rd chain from hook. *Yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 1 loop creating a chain, (this is an important step but easy to forget). Yarn over again and pull through all three loops on hook. This completes the second fhdc (remember your first ch3 counted as the first fhdc). To stitch the next fhdc, yarn over and insert the hook into the chain made in the 2nd fhdc and repeat from *. Here is a great video and picture tutorial from Tamara of Moogly. The only difference is that Tamara starts her fhdc with 2 chains, I start mine with 3. This is just a personal preference. Feel free to do either way, it won’t make much of a difference.
NOTES
- Garment is designed to fit loose as a tunic should. If you prefer a tighter fitting garment, please refer to the finished size schematic to determine the size you will need.
- Ch 3 is considered the first dc, second dc will be placed in the first st to create 2 dc in same st.
- Ch 1 is not considered the first sc, first sc will be placed in the first st of each sc row.
- Ch 2 is not considered the first hdc, next hdc will be placed in the first (same) st. Last hdc of each row will be stitched into the last hdc, omitting the ch 2 completely
- Pattern is written in size small with changes for medium, large, 1x, 2x and 3x, in parenthesis.
- Changes for specific sizes only pertain to the sizes listed. Skip to next for all other sizes unless specified.
- Color A is the lace/accent color, and the color you begin with. Color B is the main/body color.
- Unless otherwise noted, you will skip any ch1 not specifically mentioned
