Rolling in the Deep
This pattern, the Rolling in the Deep Infinity Scarf is one of my most popular designs. The bold contrasting color combinations are very appealing and chevrons are always a big hit. This design can also be worn in a variety of ways.
The Rolling in the Deep Infinity Scarf can be made in as many colors as you like, it would also make a great stash buster, but I really love the look of using contrasting colors.
I chose colors opposite each other on the color wheel for both my samples here. If you have a hard time picking colors for your crochet then I greatly recommend this color picker tool.

CA – color A, CB – color B, ch(s) – chain(s), sc – single crochet, hdc – half double crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), BLO – back loop only, RS – right side,
SPECIAL STITCHES
Fdc- Foundation Double Crochet – Tutorial
Chain 4 (counts as first fdc) yarn over (YO) and insert hook in 4th chain from hook, *YO and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), YO and pull through 1 loop creating a chain st, (this is an important step but easy to forget), YO again and pull through first two loops on hook (two loops remaining), YO again and pull through last two loops on hook. This completes the first fdc; to stitch the next fdc, yarn over and insert the hook into the chain made in the first fdc and repeat from * to desired length or desired amount of sts are achieved.
CSDC- Chainless Starting Double Crochet – Tutorial
If working in rows, turn work. If working in rounds spin hook completely around, making a twist in the loop. Pull up a loop to the height of a normal dc. YO with the loop so that the hook is behind the loop. Insert the hook into the first st of row. Complete a normal dc (YO and draw through st (3 loops on hook). YO and draw through first two loops on hook. YO and draw through last two loops on hook).
Dc3tog- double crochet three together
Yarn over (YO), insert hook into first st, YO and draw up a stitch, (three loops on hook), YO and pull through first two loops (two loops remaining on hook), YO, insert hook in next st, YO and draw up a loop (four loops on hook), YO, pull through first two loops on hook (three loops remaining on hook), YO, insert hook in next st, YO and draw up a loop, pull through first two loops on hook, YO and pull through remaining four loops.
NOTES
- Ch3 at the beginning of each row is considered the first dc. The last st(s) of each row will be placed in the top of that Ch3. Alternately you can use a CSDC- see special stitches.
- I carried my yarn on the side for the color change rows, you can fasten off and rejoin if you prefer.
- This scarf can be made with any weight yarn. It will just be wider or thinner depending on the weight or yarn used and you may need to adjust the rows for length.
Pattern
Row 1: Beginning with CA. FDC 28, turn work.
Row 2: Ch3 or CSDC, 2 dc in the first st (counts as 3 dc in first st), *dc in each of the next 3 sts, dc3tog 2x, dc in each of the next 3 sts**, 3 dc in next st 2x, repeat from * to ** one time, 3 dc in last st, turn work.
Rows 3-34: Repeat Row 2.
Rows 35-71: Change to CB and repeat Row 2, alternating every two rows between CB and CA.
Rows 72-106: Working with CB only, repeat Row 2.
Rows 107-108: Change back to CA, repeat Row 2 (this is so that the last row and first row are the same color, your seaming will be less obvious).
Block if necessary
Finishing
Mattress st the ends together. Weave in all Ends.
