Hi! This is Maggie from Crochet Happens.
Be sure to come join me over on Facebook and Instagram and say Hi.
While debating what to make today’s post about, I decided to take some inspiration from my favorite furry friend and share this crochet pattern for a super cute dog scarf I made a couple months ago. I was asked to make this scarf for a friend’s amazing service dog and was super happy with how it turned out. And how photogenic is her dog, Remi?

What Materials Do You Need to Crochet a Dog Scarf?
- Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn – I used 170 Yards of Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Cotton Yarn in the color Pink for the large size scarf.
- J10/6mm Crochet Hook
- Darning needle for sewing and attaching the pom pom.
- Scissors
- A faux fur pom pom (or you could make a yarn pom pom).
- Maisy’s Holiday Dog Scarf Crochet Pattern, either the free version or there is an option to purchase an Ad-Free, Printer Friendly Version from Yarn and Chai.

Material Notes:
This crochet pattern called for worsted weight yarn that has some stretch to it, so I chose to use some acrylic yarn that I already had on hand. It also called for a faux fur pom pom but I think a yarn pom pom would also be super cute if you didn’t have a faux fur one on hand. I used a 4″ pom pom for the one I made as suggested by the pattern which I already had on hand for some toddler hats I was making.

How Long Does It Take to Crochet a Dog Scarf?
It didn’t take me very long to crochet this dog scarf and add the finishing details, about an hour and a half for the large size.
Measurements:
Finished scarf measures about 24″ long by 4″ wide for the large size. The pattern also gives instructions for small and medium sizes as well.
Gauge:
With J10/6mm hook: 13 HDC and 12 rows = 4″.

Pattern Notes:
Overall, this crochet pattern was pretty simple and beginner friendly. It only uses one stitch but creates a great ribbed texture. The trickiest part was attaching the fur pom pom, but it wasn’t too difficult at all, and pattern includes some nice illustrations that do a great job of visually explaining the finishing process.
This scarf would make a great gift for any dog lover as well as a great item to bring to fall and winter markets, especially with matching scarfs for the owners. I know I would love one!
So grab yourself some yarn and a pom and make your best furry friend their own adorable and fun scarf to keep them warm in style.
