Waistband
- Make 1 with G hook and Color A
- It is VERY important that these waistbands are proper gauge. Before you begin the SC edging, measure. It should be 28″ long. If NOT adjust and make with smaller hook until it measures properly. Please note: Cotton stretches after blocking and through wear. Your initial waistband will measure two inches tighter than your model’s waist. This is OK.
- Once Blocked, and stretched from wear it will be a PERFECT fit I assure you PROVIDED you save yourself time and DO that gauge swatch! Notes: Count beginning CH 3 as a ST for ST count
Row 1: CH 7, DC in 4th CH from hook, CH 1, skip next CH, DC in next CH, DC in last CH (5 ST)
Rows 2-56: CH 3, DC, CH 1, skip next ST, DC in each of last 2 ST (5 ST), CH 1, *(2 SC around each DC along side, 2 SC in corner, 2 SC in CH 1 Space, 2 SC in next corner) repeat from * once more then join to first SC and finish off. [236 ST] (DO NOT JOIN ENDS OF WAISTBAND)
Skirt
Notes:
- Turn after each row or round
- Turn after each row or round
- Do not count CH 3 as a ST
- Work 1st ST in same ST as CH2
- In all joining Rounds, join to the top of the 1st ST worked.
- Join Color B to the 1st corner ST you made at the end of the waistband. This will add 1 ST to the beginning and end of your band, making your beginning stitch count exactly 2 more than twice the number of rows worked for the band.
Row 1: CH 2, DC 27, DC INC, DC 19, DC INC, DC 18, DC INC, DC 19, DC INC, DC 27 [118 ST]

Row 4: CH 2, turn, DC around [122 ST]
Row 5: CH 2, DC 29, DC INC, DC 20, DC INC, DC 20, DC INC, DC 20, DC INC, DC 29 [126 ST]

Row 10: CH 2, turn, DC around [134 ST]
Round 11: bring other end around to hook, and CH 2, DC in first ST of current side and 4th ST from other end of row at the same time, DC through next 3 ST, both sides at the same time. You are essentially joining it to make a round, but overlapping 4 ST for the little button fly. DC in every remaining ST around, join to 1st ST with SL ST [130 ST]
Row 12: CH 2, turn, DC around in BLO join to 1st ST with SL ST [130 ST]
(This SHOULD leave the FLO showing to add ruffles later)
Round 13 : CH 2, turn, DC, *CH 1, SK 1, DC in next, rep from * to last 2 STS, CH 1, SK 1, join to 1st ST with SL ST. [130 ST] (Note: watch your tension on your CH so that you do not begin pulling in your skirt. If you are a “yanker” or a tight tension hooker, you may want to use a CH 2 in between your DC’s.)
Round 14 – Round 20: CH 2, turn, *DC in CH-1 space, CH 1, SK DC, rep from * around, join to 1st ST with SL ST. [134 ST]

(This SHOULD leave the FLO showing to add ruffles later)

Ruffles
Join color C to Round 12 of the skirt. That’s the first round you worked in the BLO
Round 1: CH 3, TR OMC in BLO of same ST, and in BLO of each ST around, join to 1st TR with SL ST [268 ST]
Round 2 – Round 7: TR in each ST around [268 ST]
Final round: CH 7, skip 2 ST, *TR, CH 3, skip 2 ST, repeat from * around
Join color A to next FLO Round worked and repeat above instructions
If you like the two ruffle look (mini skirt length) stop here and go to finishing; If you like a 3 ruffle skirt (knee length), Join Color D to last available FLO round and repeat above instructions
Finishing
- Cut about 44″ – 60″ of ribbon and tie in bows in random spots around ruffles. Attach 2 buttons to the waist band and 4 to the fly of the skirt. I used the spaces in between my stitches as button holes.
- Wind ribbon through final row of each ruffle
