This beautiful green yarn has been sitting in my stash waiting for the perfect project. This granny stitch pattern was really calling to me for it. I worked a swatch, and brainstormed a few ideas. I was actually on my way to a large, sort of hooded cowl when I reached the perfect width (a little over 6″) for an infinity scarf, and decided to try it on. A lot of infinity scarves for adults are around 60″ in circumference, but I really like this smaller circumference that is perfect for being able to comfortably wrap twice without gaps. Keep your eyes peeled for that large cowl though, it’s still coming!
My Grace Tinley series features the classic granny stitch pattern (a favorite of mine!), which is created by skipping a few stitches, and then working double crochet clusters into that skipped space. Find wearables and accessories here on Cre8tion Crochet, and home decor projects on EyeLoveKnots. The granny stitch pattern itself is beginner friendly, but working in the round, and with a twisted chain, it makes this project more suitable for an advanced beginner that is comfortable working in the round.
Prefer a regular, open ended granny stitch scarf? Check out my Grace Tinley Scarf, also with 4 sizes included.

What Supplies Do I Need to Crochet an Infinity Scarf?
- 175 (285, 325, 390) Yards of Worsted Weight #4 Yarn – I used Emma’s Yarn Washable Worsted in the Freshly Cut colorway
- H8/5mm Crochet Hook – I love my ergonomic hooks from SiennasBowtique on Etsy
- Tapestry Needle
- Soft Tape Measure as Gauge is essential
Yarn Alternatives:
Emma’s Yarn Washable Worsted is such a lovely yarn to work with. It’s a 100% superwash merino wool that is soft, cozy and squishy, and not itchy at all. Superwash means it can easily be machine washed if needed without worry of it felting, and the gorgeous colorway is hand dyed at my local yarn shop, Four Purls – they knock it out of the park!
Similar Yarns [Wool]: Lion Brand Wool Ease, WeCrochet Swish, Berroco Vintage; or use your favorite worsted weight yarn
How Long Does it Take to Crochet an Infinity Scarf?
I was able to work up the Adult Small size in about two and a half hours.
Measurements:
- Toddler: 4.25″ (4 1/4″) Wide by 37.38″ (37 3/8″) in Circumference [to fit a head size of 18″-20″]
- Child: 5.75″ (5 3/4″) Wide by 43″ in Circumference [to fit a head size of 20″-22″]
- Adult Small: 6.38″ (6 3/8″) Wide by 43″ in Circumference [to fit a head size of 20″-22″]
- Adult Large: 7.13″ (7 1/8″) Wide by 46.13″ (46 1/8″) in Circumference [to fit a head size of 22″-23″]
The circumference is sized to be able to wrap around twice, but have a close fit. This is why gauge is essential for this project. Circumference of the infinity scarf is the total distance around so when laid flat, you multiply that measurement by 2 to get the circumference. If you would like to measure your head to see which size to make, take your tape measure out and measure around your head just above your eyebrows. The distance around is the circumference aka your head size.
Gauge – Essential:
In pattern, 5 clusters + it’s respective space = 4″ wide; 5 rounds (aka 10) = 4.25″ (4 1/4″) tall
Abbreviation (US Term)
- DC – Double Crochet (Photo Tutorial)
Pattern Notes:
Typically, we are careful not to twist the beginning chain when we join to work in the round, but for this infinity scarf, imagine the chain laid out as you normal would, then turn it over 180 degrees (so you’re looking at the back of the chains) to add the twist we’re looking for.
By twisting the initial chain, with each round of this infinity scarf it actually works two rounds at the same time – one appearing on each side of the foundation chain. The rounds in the pattern are only listed once, even though it counts as 2. For example, Round 2 is actually equal to 4 rounds.
Beginning chain 2 counts as a double crochet.

I love the texture of this infinity scarf pattern — just slightly “chunky.” And the green color is lovely. Thank you for sharing this post in the Talent-Sharing Tuesdays Link-Up 48.
