Carrie from Mountain Momma Crochet here! I appreciate you coming to check out the assessment of this EASY triangle bandana.
You know it. I know it. There’s spare cotton yarn in your stash.
While we transition into summer, I was looking for an item to make. The qualifications, given the personal and professional commitments of the last few weeks were: easy-to-follow instructions, ‘road friendly’, yarn on hand, and repetition wouldn’t have been tossed out as a perk. This almost became a catastrophe as I originally picked out another pattern but quickly changed directions when thinking of the number of ends I’d have to weave in. Does anyone else eliminate a project based on that fact? Just me?
If you’ve worked with fiber for any length of time, you have your favorite materials. Most have a love-hate relationship with cotton yarn. I’m one of those people. I find some cotton yarns too stiff for my liking. Some wearables call for cotton yarn. That detail will generally steer me away from making something to wear unless I’m willing to put the money into a designer cotton or cotton blend acceptable for the pattern.
Last year, I made several boho bibs using cotton yarn. Insert said comment about having cotton yarn in my stash. When looking at this pattern and comparing it to the cotton yarn I had on hand, there were plenty of possibilities. While these pictures don’t show it, you could certainly switch it up and have a multi-color bandana. I’m excited to report there’s a free version of the Easy Bandana pattern.
What Supplies Do I Need to Crochet the Easy Bandana?
- Worsted #4 Yarn – I Love This Cotton Yarn, Pictured: Deep Teal (#315) and Gold (#14), Yarn Bee Cotton Et Len in Rouge (#14) – one skein per bandana
- Size H8/5.00mm Crochet Hook
- Needle for weaving in ends
- Stitch marker
- Scissors

Material Notes:
One skein of yarn is more than enough to make one bandana. The rest of the items on the supply list should already be on hand. The two yarn choices shown above have subtle differences in that the Et Len is a mix of cotton and linen while the ILT Cotton is 100% cotton. The linen creates little ‘fly away’ fibers, which some may find itchy. If choosing another mixed fiber, I would go by feel. Find something that is soft and pliable as this make will be worn on the head. You want this to sit well and to lay as intended.
How Long Does it Take to Crochet an Easy Bandana?
This make is so easy to create. If you participate in markets, plan on adding at least a few of these to offer. Crochet is steadily on the rise again and even more so with younger shoppers. Once you understand the repeat, it’s relatively easy to knock out. The most tedious part of the pattern is the slip stitches, which help make the ties. To be honest, slip stitches aren’t my favorite. Thankfully, since the rest of the pattern is easy and repetitive, it’s a small price to pay for an easy, stylish make. After all, how else would you make functional ties which look neatly put together?
I finished one bandana in less than an hour. The hubs and I went on a road trip in the Jeep. I packed around five or six color choices and had a great time on the road. I completed three bandanas in no time. I took a few breaks to appreciate the scenery and shop for yarn, of course. Your finished time may be a little faster than mine, depending on your personal speed and time to dedicate to this make.
Gauge/Measurement:
The gauge for this bandana is 4″ across four granny clusters. This gauge is not difficult to meet. If you find you need to make adjustments, go up or down one hook size, depending on your finished measurement.
Pattern Notes:
This pattern uses SC (single crochet), DC (double crochet), and SL ST (slip stitch). Multiple DCs are used to create a scallop trim down each side of the bandana. This gives the finished item such a neat look.
This pattern uses basic stitches. I would even recommend this pattern to a beginner. The free crochet pattern includes a video tutorial link on the webpage, which is helpful if struggling with any part of the instructions. The cotton yarn + turning of the work = SO MUCH texture!
You’ll have enough yarn left over to stash away for a rainy day. Granny squares anyone!? Better yet, take the remainder of those yarn choices and make a multi-color bandana. This would be a cute gift for the teen in your life, part of a college care package, or a trendy accent to a new outfit. I’ll be adding this item to my spring and fall markets. After all, just think of the possibilities with so many colors to choose from!
