Huge thank you to Emily of Crochet Aweigh for putting together this awesome collection of crochet patterns for us!
The Helga Sweater was my favorite sweater to make out of the ones I’ve tried by Gala so far. This is a great sweater to make if you are not familiar with the mosaic crochet technique and want to give it a try. The pattern repeat is fairly short which is why it is a perfect option for a first mosaic project. The pattern is available on Ravelry to download for free! Like many of her sweaters, once you get through the yoke with all the colorwork it is smooth sailing from there. Double crochet in the round the rest of the way and add the ribbing. I chose Circulo Anne for my sweater and I absolutely love it! This sweater is written for sizes XS – L, but I bet if you adjusted the yarn weight and hook size you can make it more flexible if need be.
Next we have the Athens Dress. This is one that has been on my to-do list ever since I laid eyes on it! Made with 2,500 – 2,600 yards of fingering weight this will take awhile, but it will be worth it! I love how she uses a combination of motifs and regular stitches to make the whole dress come together. The pattern is written for size small-medium and considered an intermediate pattern. She specifies a 2.5mm hook.
The Audrey Top is a stunning tee made with lace weight thread. This top is so versatile! You could wear it with jeans, over a dress, dress it up or down and it will look amazing! Again Gala sized it for small to medium, but this would be very easy to go up to a light fingering weight if you wanted a larger size. I just might need one in every color!
The Charlotte Sweater is up next! I’m not going to lie…this one gave me a run for my money! It has a 33 stitch pattern repeat (if I remember correctly) so it is a lot to handle. I definitely recommend getting a good handle on mosaic crochet before tackling this one. However, this sweater has one of the most stunning yokes I have ever seen! The colorwork is simply amazing, and it is worth it. This sweater is graded for 12 different sizes. Gala provides 3 kinds of instructions for every single row! She includes written instructions, charts, and a color photograph for every row of the colorwork. She was extremely thorough in her writing. I used Circulo Charme and it came out perfectly!
The Penelope Maxi Skirt creates a feminine look for Summer. Gala recommends using a mercerized cotton thread and between 1,969 – 2,406 yards. This pattern is written for sizes 6 – 16. She provides written instructions and photos.
The Jacqueline Sweater is a chic turtleneck that looks oh-so-cozy! I’m obsessed with the neckline and the popcorn stitch “drops”. This sweater is made with fingering weight so even though it looks super cozy you won’t get overheated if you live in warmer climates. I’m always on the lookout for fingering weight sweaters here in Florida! The balloon sleeves to the cuffs bring this whole look together. Although written for sizes 6-16, Gala does include instructions on where to increase or decrease depending on your desired fit.
Okay, how cute is the Ethna Dress??? What a perfect little brunch outfit! Sorry for my fangirling…but really this is so cute! This pattern also uses fingering or lace weight and a 2.5mm hook. It is written for size 10 US, but this would easily be adjustable to any size if you make the yoke a few extra rounds wider and added some additional stitches to the underarms. The yoke does use the mosaic technique.
The Spring Sweater is another fantastic mosaic sweater, released in March 2024. I found this one extremely enjoyable to make. I love how it has just a little pop of a third color mixed into the color work. This sweater also has an option to add the colorwork to the edges of the sleeves. The Spring Sweater is written for 17 different sizes, and you will need between 1500 – 3120 yards of DK weight. I chose Circulo Charme again. It seems to be my favorite for colorwork sweaters. Charme is a sport weight yarn rather than a DK so I went up a size in the pattern to accommodate my thinner yarn.
The Rosa Top is a fun and flirty casual top crocheted out of light fingering yarn. The pink Gala chose is simply adorable! This pattern includes written instructions for 3 sizes, charts, and photos. You will need between 1,662 – 2,493 yards with a C/2.75mm hook. It is the bobble sleeves and boat neckline that make this top so charming!
Finally we have the Jane Dress. What a showstopper! An incredible work of art made with lace weight yarn and a 2.00mm hook. I love how she chose black for this dress, but this would be great in any color. On Ravelry Gala suggests making it in white as an engagement or wedding dress. The pattern includes written instructions and charts. Can you imagine how unbelievable it would be if you crocheted in beads?
