Hi! This is Kami. Be sure to come join me over on Instagram and say Hi.
Again it is that time of year where my feet always seem to be freezing. Last year I shared a review for the Easy Crochet Slippers by Itchin’ for Some Stitchin’. This year I chose another sweet and simple pattern but with a little more bulk. Because they are made with thick yarn the Warmest Feet Ever Slipper Socks definitely live up to their name!
With three sizes available you should be able to make a pair for almost any adult or teen. Best of all I made mine in about an hour. So you’ll still have time to make them before Christmas. Thinking they are a little plain for gift giving? Firstly you could add decorative buttons, pom poms or bows to make them a little more fancy. Furthermore adding some embroidery, surface crochet stitching or appliques would add something special. Additionally you could do the toe and heel in a different color for a little bit of variety.
What Materials Do You Need to Crochet Slipper Socks:
- 100 yards of Super Bulky #6 Yarn – I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick in Rapids
- J10/6mm Hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle
- Warmest Feet Ever Slipper Socks, Free Crochet Pattern on Carroway Crochet or paid PDF from Ravelry
Material Notes:
These slippers were designed with Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick. As this yarn is quickly becoming a favorite of mine, I figured why change a good thing. However this yarn contains wool. If you have wool sensitivities Yarn Bee Dream Supreme, Premier Basix Super Bulky or Hobbii Amigo Giga should be suitable wool free substitutes.
How Long Does it Take to Crochet Slipper Socks:
I made these slippers socks while waiting for my kids at a Trunk or Treat. Because I was checking for fit throughout on the first sock it did take me a little longer to make. Additionally I didn’t actually finish them until I got home because I didn’t have a needle with me. But we were there around an hour and I left with a new pair of slipper socks. All in all I would say that you could easily make any size in well under two hours.
Measurements:
Because I customized my size it won’t match with the designer size. See Pattern Notes below for details. Length from toe to heel 9.5 inches. Foot circumference 9 inches. Height 5.5 inches.
Gauge:
9 stitches and 6 rows of double crochet in the round is equal to 4 inches.
Pattern Notes:
Although these slippers are written for three sizes, my size falls in between. Small is a 5/6, medium is a 7/8 and I typically wear a 6 1/2. While I could have just sized up, my feet are on the skinnier side. Because of this I made a slight modification to get a better fit. First, I used the pattern for the small size for circumference. But then I used the medium size to get the length. Essentially I followed the small size but added an additional round to add to the length.
In conclusion these socks may be basic but that makes them so quick to make. Additionally because of the simple design they are easily customizable for size. And finally there are so many additions that you can use to make them your own. I think I will be using this pattern to make slipper socks for my kids next year! This year I am already making cats.
