Hi! This is Kami. Be sure to come join me over on Instagram and say Hi.
Although I grew up in the 80’s, I have never worn leg warmers. I remember them being worn all the time back then though. However, I hadn’t really given them much thought until my daughter mentioned them. We decided that she should have a pair and settled on the Crochet Leg Warmers Pattern by CAAB Crochet.
These leg warmers were pretty simple to make. Firstly you start with a ribbed band, similar to a bottom up beanie. Then you make a long round tube, adding in some increases for size. Finally you attach a second ribbed band at the top. Although the instructions are for only one size, customization information is provided.
What Materials Do You Need to Crochet Leg Warmers?
- 290 yards Medium/Worsted Weight #4 Yarn – I used Loops and Threads Impeccable in Denim Mouline
- I9/5.5 mm Crochet Hook
- J10/6 mm Crochet Hook
- Measuring Tape
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle

Material Notes:
The designer used Lion Brand Mandala Ombre Yarn. Although I love the ombre look, I didn’t want to go through the hassle. An ombre yarn gives a gently faded striped look. Therefore if the yarn stripes aren’t close to the same it’s more difficult to get a similar pair.
I opted for a mouline yarn. Mouline is just colored yarns that are twisted together. It has a similar look to a variegated yarn when worked into the project. Additionally I think that these would be fun to do with two or three different colors for the ribbing and main body.

How Long Does it Take to Crochet Leg Warmers?
These leg warmers worked up pretty quickly. I didn’t actually time myself but I think it only took about three hours.
What Size are Crochet Leg Warmers?
The finished leg warmers measured 13.5″ long and 6.25″ wide laid flat.
Gauge:
Pattern gauge was only listed for the ribbing in the pattern. Ribbing should be 2 1/2 inches by 11 inches. The pattern did not list a gauge for the body rounds. However my height was obviously different since I didn’t do as many rounds to reach the same height. My gauge for the body was 18 stitches and 18 rows in stitch pattern is equal to 4″.
All About Making Crochet Leg Warmers:
I used the customization instructions in the pattern to make my bottom band a little smaller to be more fitted at the ankle. Then when I started the body I still used the number of stitches in the pattern to keep it nice and slouchy. Working until my piece was approximately 11 inches long, I made 38 body rounds.
Overall this was a fun pattern to make. I really enjoyed making something that I had never made before.
