It’s me, Emily with Crochet Aweigh.

The Goddess Vibes Top designed by Anastasia of Journey Chanel Designs has been on my project to-do list for quite some time. When she decided to put it back into pattern testing to offer more sizes I jumped at the opportunity to make it! Now this pattern is back, better than ever, and is graded for sizes XXS – 7XL. This top would be perfect for wearing to a music festival, to the beach, an engagement or maternity photo shoot, the possibilities are endless!

What Materials Do You Need to Crochet a Goddess Vibes Top?

  • 200-1900 yards of any DK/Lightweight #3 yarn
  • Sizes E4/3.5mm & G6/4.00mm Crochet hooks or sizes needed to obtain gauge – We love Clover Amour Ergonomic hooks!
  • Elastic for the belt – optional, but highly recommended!
  • Soft tape measure as gauge is important
  • Scissors and yarn needle for weaving ends
  • Stitch Markers – I love these cute kitty ones!

Material Notes:

Anastasia chose Memento from WeCrochet, a 100% Pima Cotton. She explained to us testers that 100% cotton is best for this kind of top because it will offer structure, and won’t stretch as much as a cotton blend. Memento is a DK weight. Here is where I encountered just a little bit of trouble. Originally I chose a DK weight 100% cotton, but I ended up not being able to meet gauge as everything I tried was coming out too big. Then I swapped to a sport weight cotton. I was able to meet gauge with a 2.5 mm hook instead of the recommended 3.5 mm. Even though I met gauge, when I made the first cup of the bralette, it was way too small. I tried the next size up, and it was still too small. The measurements of the cup didn’t seem to match the gauge. The dark red cup in the photos below should have been 5.5″w x 7″ according to the size chart, but they were smaller even though my gauge matched. I encourage you to give yourself grace when working on this pattern as it may take a few tries to get the cups to the size you want. Be sure to double check your cup measurements to the chart before moving on to the belt.

Eventually I went with Nifty Cotton from Cascade Yarns, which is a worsted weight 100% cotton. I was unable to meet the gauge, but with the E/3.5mm hook I was able to get the cup measurements to match, which was more important to me. I used 4 skeins of Nifty Cotton, or about 740 yards.

Work in Progress!

How Long Does it Take to Crochet a Goddess Vibes Top?

After the cup issue was all sorted out I estimate this took between 6-8 hours.

Gauge:

Anastasia provides 2 different gauges. The cup gauge is 11 half double crochets by 8 rows = 2″ with an E/3.5mm hook. The belt gauge is 7 rows of the belt = 4″ long.

Pattern Notes:

The Goddess Vibes Top begins by making 2 cups, then the belt. After attaching the cups to the belt you make the middle lace section between the cups and work up to the front straps. Then the puff stitch back is added and the back straps. Once all that is done, you seam the straps at the shoulders. Tassels are optional, but fabulous! I simply had to include them in mine!

The pattern is written for sizes XXS – 7X, or bust size 24″ – 70″. Due to the bralette style, the pattern is written with negative 1-3″ of ease, so that it fits snugly. Negative ease is when you take your bust measurement in this case (or whichever measurement the pattern is based off of) and subtract a certain amount so that the finished object fits the way the designer says it should. Another note Anastasia makes is that it is highly recommended to sew in or crochet in elastic to the belt. This will also help the top fit correctly.

One other thing that I had to tweak was the strap length. I had to shorten mine by 3″. I tried it the way Anastasia wrote it, but the cups gaped a lot on the sides. I feel like this may be due to how the straps curve. I removed a few rows of my straps on the front, and it tightened the outer edge of each cup so that it no longer gaped. This is another trial and error aspect to this pattern since these measurements and sizes are unique to your body.
