It’s me, Emily with Crochet Aweigh.
Lately I have been on the hunt for smaller, quick projects because I’ve been doing more markets than usual. Coasters are always a great seller at markets. They also make wonderful gifts for just about any occasion! Housewarming? Coasters. Hostess Gift? Coasters. Coworker gifts? Coasters! Below is a round up of 15 free crochet coaster patterns!

What kind of yarn is best for crochet coasters?
Most crocheters choose a 100% cotton yarn or a cotton/acrylic blend for coasters. Cotton is more absorbent than other fibers. Some of my favorite 100% cotton yarns are: Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton, Natural Max Color from Circulo Yarns, and Nifty Cotton from Cascade yarns. Some cotton/acrylic blends that would work great for coasters are: Sarasota from Cascade yarns, Lion Brand Made with Love the Cottony One, and WeCrochet Comfy Worsted.

1: Fresh Cut Coasters
These Fresh Cut Coasters are designed by Eye Love Knots. It takes about 20 minutes to make one, and uses a G6/4mm crochet hook. The designer used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton and says that 1 skein makes about 10 coasters! The border round is reverse single crochet aka the crab stitch. It creates this very unique and neat edge.

2: Chain Stitch Coasters
Now this is a different kind of pattern from Repeat Crafter Me! These coasters are one long chain that is rolled into a circle and hot glued together! They remind me of a ship’s rope that is piled up on the deck. The designer used a variegated color of Lily Sugar n Cream yarn and a size F/3.75mm crochet hook.

3: Beaded Coaster Set
This coaster set is a free download from Yarnspirations. It calls for 3 colors of Red Heart Super Saver, which is a 100% acrylic. Acrylic is good for coasters as it is super washable and cost effective. The little wooden beads are a fun touch that set these coasters apart!

4: Sunrise Coasters
The Sunrise Coasters from TL Yarn Crafts used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton to create these adorable and beginner friendly coasters! The scallop edge is a fun detail to finish off these simple coasters.

5: Super Speedy Car Coasters
We can’t forget about car coasters! I swear my life changed when I added coasters to my car. I felt…accomplished for reason? Like I finally had my life together! I don’t know if your car coasters will bring you that same sense of accomplishment, but hey it’s worth a try, right?! These super speedy car coasters from T&C Crafters will be done in no time! The designer used WeCrochet Dishie.

6: Sun Coasters
The Sun Coasters from Jo to the World had to be included in this round up because they are so cute and different! These are a little bit more of a challenge, and are described as intermediate level. The designer says you can use any blue and yellow scrap yarn.

7: Delilah Coasters
Flowers are my favorite kind of coasters! I especially like these because Eye Love Knots has a whole series of patterns with this motif! She has several different coaster patterns, a shawl, earrings, and more! She used Lily Sugar n Cream Cotton yarn for these cute coasters!

8: Summer Vibes Coasters
These Summer Vibes Coasters by Rich Textures Crochet will be so fun sitting on your backyard table at the family BBQ! It looks harder than it is! The stitch combo is just single crochets and front post double crochets. The designer recommends a worsted #4 weight cotton like Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton or WeCrochet Dishie.

9: Crochet Cactus Coasters
What can I say? I’m a succa for cacti! Ya know, because they’re succulents! …Anyways I had to include these because of the cute little pot container the coasters sit in! These cacti Coasters are designed by Sewrella and she used Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton and a G6/4.25 mm crochet hook.

10: Crochet Knot Coasters
These crochet knot coasters from Yarnspirations caught my eye right away! Don’t let the interesting shaping fool you! This pattern is considered an easy level. There is a video that shows you how to create this knot shape. These use Lily Sugar N Cream and a size F/3.75mm crochet hook.

11: Cute Mushroom Coaster
Here is a great bite-sized project to try colorwork for the first time! The designer usedan F/3.75mm crochet hook and Bernat Super Value, but she says you can use any yarn scraps from your stash.

12: Petalicious Crochet Coaster
The use of double crochet clusters in this Petalicious coaster to create a flower is so smart! First the Coffee is the designer and she used Lily Sugar N Cream and a G+/4.5mm crochet hook to make these.

13: Picot Flower Coasters
These stunning coasters are designed by Sweet Bee Crochet. It uses overlay crochet techniques to create the exciting colorwork. Little picots finish off the edge. The designer used Bernat Handicrafter Cotton in 4 colors and an H8/5mm crochet hook.

14: Tunisian Citrus Slice Coaster
Make a coaster of your favorite fruit! Even though these are tunisian, you don’t need a special hook. The pattern calls for a G+/4.5mm crochet hook and some scrap yarn to make these little citrus slices for your Summer table!

15: Flower Garden Coaster
These Flower Garden Coasters by Nana’s Crafty Home are perfect for a tea party! The little tassels really do it for me! The yarn the designer used is no longer available, but Nifty Cotton Splash and Solids would be an excellent pairing for these diamond-shaped coasters.
