It’s me, Emily with Crochet Aweigh.
I’m back with another pattern test! It’s been a while since I’ve done one as I’m focused on other things right now, but when I saw the tester call for this Oversized V Tee from Journey Chanel Designs I was smitten! It looked like a beautiful and lightweight top that could be worn during the Summer, or even to work! Maybe I’ll do a separate post with styling options for your 9-5!

What Materials Do You Need to Crochet an Oversized V Tee?
- 600-1700 yards of a DK #3 weight yarn – I recommend cotton yarn
- G7/4.5mm Crochet Hook or size needed to obtain gauge – We love Clover Amour Ergonomic hooks!
- Soft tape measure as gauge is important
- Scissors and yarn needle for weaving ends
- The Oversized V Tee, paid pattern via Ravelry, or free with this YouTube tutorial

Material Notes:
Anastasia used Nile Yarn Egyptian Cotton. Egyptian Cotton is different than regular cotton. The plant is called Gossypium barbadense, and it is grown in the Nile Delta region of Egypt. The specific environment of Nile soil, climate, and conditions is what causes the fibers to be different than regular cottons.
I decided to go with one of my personal favorites, Berroco Modern Cotton DK, because it is more accessible than the Nile Yarn, and because I love the blend of cotton and rayon. Berroco Modern Cotton DK is 60% Pima cotton (which also comes from the Gossypium barbadense plant but in a different location), and 40% Modal Rayon. Rayon is derived from bamboo. This is one of my favorite yarns for tops because of the drape that the finished fabric has. It also has a slight luster to it, and reminds me of a silk blend. Because it is made of natural fibers it is comfortable to wear in warmer weather. I ended up using about 700 yards for my top.
How Long Does it Take to Crochet a Lucille Top?
This was way faster than I expected! It took 5 hours to crochet the main part of the top. I then spent about another hour seaming up the sides, and adding the bottom single crochet border for a total of 6 hours for my size, Large.

Gauge:
Gauge is 1 single crochet row and 7 puff rows = 4″ for the middle puff stitch gauge. The body gauge is 5 V stitches by 6.5 rows = 4″. However during the testing she said that the puff stitch gauge is the most important. If you can get that to match, then the body gauge should automatically match as well. Anastasia says she is a loose crocheter, and that if you are not you should check gauge first with a larger hook. I went up to an H8/5.00mm crochet hook to meet gauge.

What Size is an Oversized V Tee?
The Oversized V Tee Pattern is written for sizes XXS-7X. The top is designed based off of bust measurements with 6-8″ of positive ease. If you prefer a tighter or looser fit, you can adjust by choosing a smaller or larger size. I personally wanted a more slim fit so I did the large instead of my usual XL size. The finished measurements around are as follows:
- XXS- 32″
- XS- 36”
- S- 40”
- M- 44”
- L- 48”
- XL- 52”
- 2XL- 56”
- 3XL- 60”
- 4XL- 64”
- 5XL- 68”
- 6XL- 72”
- 7XL- 76”
All About Making the Oversized V Tee:
The lace is light and airy so that it gives you a feminine and classic look! This top is made by making the center Puff stitches & then building off of it to create the body panels on both sides. After that Anastasia says to block your piece. I like blocking, especially when I’m using a bamboo blend. I love how it opens up the stitches. Once the piece is blocked, fold it and seam it up on either side to create the body and arm holes. The designer includes options to add sleeves, a bottom edge, and a neck edge. I really like how mine looks without the sleeves, so I omitted them and the neck edge. I did do the bottom edge though! It just made the bottom border a little cleaner. There are lots of photos included in the pattern so that you always know your next step.

The designer also includes A TON of customization options and walks you through step-by-step to tailor this top to exactly how you want it to be. The pattern provides multiple customization charts so you can decide the length: anywhere from crop top to maxi dress! The pattern also has information on how to make the final measurements smaller or bigger depending on your preferences. If you need larger than the 7X or smaller than the XXS, the instructions are included for changing it.

I see the Oversized V Tee becoming a frequent piece in my everyday wardrobe! Comment below to tell me which color you will be making your Tee in!
