It’s me, Emily with Crochet Aweigh.
This show-stopping top is designed by Anastasia of Journey Chanel Designs. I just love the shoulder detail, how the puff stitches flow seamlessly from across the front and into the straps. I also love how this design can be a top or a dress depending on how many repeats you do! If you know me, then you know of course I chose to do a dress! Anastasia is a wonderful designer who is always size inclusive with her writing. The pattern is graded for sizes XXS – 7XL+. This would be an amazing project for an intermediate crocheter.

Material Notes:
Anastasia chose Cotton Cake from Jovy’s Yarn Shop. At the beginning of the pattern testing phase, she stresses to us how important it was for us to choose a 100% cotton. My original yarn choice was Lion Brand Coboo, which is a cotton/rayon blend. She said that a blend like Coboo would stretch too much. I broadened my search and found Juniper Moon Cirrus, which is 100% Israeli Mako cotton. It is an incredibly soft cotton that reminded me of a rayon blend. I chose color Buttermilk because I thought the dress would give Beauty and the Beast vibes. I also decided the whole dress should sparkle! So I ordered Glitter Deluxe thread in gold from Hobbii to hold along with the Cirrus. I used 6 skeins of Cirrus, or 1,968 yards, for my dress in size large.

How Long Does it Take to Crochet a Noelle Top?
The dress version took about 24 hours for my size Large. About 16-18 hours would be a good estimate for the top version.

Gauge:
The gauge is 18 stitches by 7 rows = 4″. The original pattern calls for a E/3.5mm hook, but I ended up going up to an F/3.75mm hook instead. My swatch with the E hook was too small, and the swatch with the F hook matched just about perfectly.

Pattern Notes:
The Noelle Top is begun by making the front and back panels of the bodice, then creating the shoulder straps off of those panels. The only thing I changed about the pattern is that I chose to sew up the sides of my front and back panels so that I could better gauge how long each shoulder strap should be. Below is a photo of a try on when the shoulder straps were a little too long. By being able to try on the top at this point I easily shortened my straps before weaving in all the ends and making it much more difficult to adjust the straps length.

After seaming the panels and doing the straps, you move onto the belt and “skirt” section. I chose to incorporate an elastic thread on the first row and last row of the belt. I also found that the picots of the belt would absolutely not lay flat until after blocking it at the end. I put a pin in each picot across the front, and made sure the back was laying flat underneath.

The skirt is a combo of V stitches and Shell stitches. It came out so pretty! The glitter thread didn’t show up in the pictures unfortunately, but the entire dress shimmers so beautifully! I encourage you to go check out the other testers’ projects on Ravelry, because they really came out so amazing and maybe it will inspire you to make your own Noelle Top!

The Noelle Top/Dress is a stunning piece of art that will have you the talk of your next event! From the puff stitches of the bodice to the lacy skirt, it is utter perfection! Comment below to tell me if you are making the top version or the dress version and what color you are picking!
