Hi! This is Kami. Be sure to come join me over on Instagram and say Hi.
Spring is here and these Spring Posy Earrings from The Mother Lode are the perfect project. Nothing says spring like flowers. And in just a couple hours you can have a new pair of floral inspired earrings!
These come together in just four rounds. Then you can block and stiffen if desired. This part can take anywhere from an hour to overnight. However I highly recommend it for lacy earrings to help open up all those gorgeous stitches. Finally add some ear wires and your new earrings are ready to wear.
Earrings make a wonderful Mother’s Day gift, Birthday gift or Graduation gift. Additionally they would make beautiful bridesmaid gifts. Although I didn’t add beads to these earrings, if you’re interested in trying it you might like my Alma Fan Earrings post.
What Materials Do You Need to Crochet a Pair of Spring Posy Earrings?
- Around 15 yards of #10 Crochet Thread – I used Curio 10 in Heliotrope
- 1.60 mm Steel Crochet Hook
- Ear Wires (2)
- Split Rings (2)
- Jewelry Pliers (1 pair works but some people prefer 2)
- Scissors
- Small Needle (to weave ends)
- Optional: Stiffening Spray – I used Aleene’s Stiffen Quik Spray
- Spring Posy Earrings, Free Crochet Pattern from The Mother Lode

Material Notes:
I used Knit Picks/We Crochet Curio 10 for my earrings. This thread is only available online at this time. Some other options for crochet thread that can be found in major craft stores are Aunt Lydia’s, Red Heart and Artiste. Amazon also has a wide variety of thread, but the only brand I have tried and can recommend is Colored Bird. Additionally if you don’t want to invest in cotton thread, you can use embroidery thread. Personally I find it harder to use because it typically has several strands and they can snag on the hook. Finally lace weight yarn is also an option, though your finished product might be slightly larger.
You will also need some sort of ear wires. Although they aren’t necessary, I also recommend using split rings. Split rings help the earrings lay better when they are in your ears. While I didn’t add them, beads would work well with this pattern. These would look good with a bigger bead in the center, or a half bead like for card making.
While it is not necessary, using a stiffening spray and blocking these earrings can really help to bring out their shape. I used Aleene’s Stiffen Quik Spray to stiffen my earrings. You will want to use a plastic-wrapped blocking mat or piece of cardboard to lay out your earrings while they dry. Pins are optional for blocking the earrings, but you may find them helpful.
How Long Does it Take to Crochet a Pair of Spring Posy Earrings?
It took me around an hour hands-on time to make these earrings. I allowed them to block and stiffen overnight before finishing, which can take as little as an hour or up to 24 hours depending on how much you sprayed and the humidity.
What Size are Finished Spring Posy Earrings?
My earrings are about 1.25 inches in diameter after blocking and stiffening.
Gauge:
Gauge is not super important for earrings. However mine measured about .5 inches after round 2.
All About Making the Spring Posy Earrings:
I absolutely adore my new Spring Posy Earrings!! They make everything feel like spring. Plus they are so easy to make. The pattern is available for free on The Mother Lode website. However the paid pattern comes with a photo guide and a stitch chart and can be purchased on Etsy or Ravelry.
This pattern is super quick and easy. It is made in the round, and each earring is only four rounds! There are no complex or difficult stitches involved in this pattern, but due to the difficulty that can come with using a very thin fiber like crochet thread, it’s probably best suited for a crocheter with some experience working with smaller hooks and lightweight yarn.
To block and stiffen, I use Aleene’s Stiffen Quik Spray. First I use the spray to wet the earrings. Next I shape the earrings and set them on a plastic wrapped blocking mat or a piece of cardboard to dry. Optionally you can pin them, but I find that it isn’t necessary and it can leave holes from the pins. Finally let them sit until they are completely dry.
